The Sydney Kings have announced the signing of their first import Derrick Walton to a one-year deal. He's a 6'0" PG who has previously played in the NBA with Miami, LA Clippers and Detroit and spent most of last season playing in the G-League along with a brief stint with Detroit.

As well the Brisbane Bullets have signed Sudanese-Australian Gorjok Gak to a one-year deal. The 6'11" centre played last season in the Czech Republic.

Basketball Australia have named the Boomers team for the FIBA Asia Cup in Jakarta to defend our gold medal from 2017.

The Perth Wildcats have announced they've signed former 36ers championship player and current Boomers assistant coach John Rillie as their new coach on a 3 year deal. Rillie has spent the past 11 years as an assistant coach in the NCAA, spending six years with Boise State and the last five years with the University of California, Santa Barbara.

The Cairns Taipans have announced the signing of their second import D.J. Hogg to a one-year deal. He's a 6'9" forward who played in France last season.

The SE Melbourne Phoenix have announced the signing of their second import Trey Kell to a one-year deal. He's a 6'4" SG who is a naturalised Syrian and plays for their national team and played in Italy last season.

The Boomers last night won their final group stage game against Indonesia at the Asia Cup and have advanced to the Quarter Finals on Thursday.

Some great news Melbourne United forward Jack White is off to the NBA signing a two-way contract with the Denver Nuggets.

Also the Sydney Kings have announced the signing of their second import Justin Simon on a one-year deal. Simon won the NBL's Best Defensive Player award when he played for the Illawarra Hawks in the 2020-21 season and he spent last season playing in Germany where he also won that league's defensive player of the year award.

Tonight the Boomers beat Japan in their Asia Cup QF and will now play Korea or New Zealand in the semi-finals on Saturday.

Also the NBL have announced an Australian sporting first playing a game on Christmas Day this season when Sydney hosts Melbourne live at 7pm on both 10 Peach and ESPN. The 36ers will play a Christmas Eve game against SE Melbourne at AEC live from 5pm on ESPN. Melbourne will also play an open-air game against Cairns on December 23.

The Cairns Taipans have also announced the signing of guard Ben Ayre to a 2 year deal. The former 36ers Development Player spent some time with the Taipans last season as an injury replacement player.

The Boomers have advanced to the Asia Cup Final on Sunday where they will play the winner of Jordan and Lebanon after beating New Zealand in the semi-finals tonight.

In tonight's final Australia held on for a narrow win the Boomers beating Lebanon 75-73 to win back to back Asia Cups. In the bronze medal game New Zealand beat Jordan 83-75.

The 36ers have announced changes to their Basketball Department headlined by former Boomers assistant coach and longtime NBL assistant Mick Downer joining CJ Bruton's coaching staff as an assistant coach, Alf Connolly as Strength & Conditioning Coach, Mike Conway as Emotional Agility & Mind Coach, and Tristan Chai as Head of Medical.

The Illawarra Hawks have announced they've signed South Sudanese-Australian Mangok Mathiang to a one-year deal. He's a 6'10" F/C who has previously played in the NBA with the Charlotte Hornets and most recently played in Slovenia but missed last season due to a broken leg.

Melbourne United have announced the signing of their first import Rayjon Tucker to a one-year deal. He's a 6'3" guard who has previously played in the NBA with Utah, Philadelphia and Denver and last season played predominantly in the G-League and played a couple of games with the Milwaukee Bucks at the end of the season.

Also the NBL have announced big changes to the Finals format starting this season with play-in games being introduced like in the NBA. The Top 2 teams at the end of the season will automatically qualify for the Semi-Finals series and the 3rd to 6th place teams will compete in pay-in games with the SF remaining best of 3 and Grand Final remaining best of 5.
