Today the NBL announced the re-introduced All-Star Game will return to a North vs South format on the 23rd December.

The eight NBL teams will be split into two conferences of four teams. The North conference will include Cairns, Townsville, Sydney & Wollongong, the South conference Adelaide, Perth, Melbourne & New Zealand. Ten players from each conference will be chosen and fans will be involved in the selection of the players.

Also not quite NBL or Boomers news but congratulations to Opals star Lauren Jackson today named to carry the Australian flag at the Olympic Games opening ceremony. Andrew Gaze was the last aussie basketball player to receive such an honour.

Unfortunately the Boomers lost their opening game at the Olympics tonight but they did comeback about midway through the 4th from a double digit deficit to get within two and almost snatched it against a Brazilian side that would've expected to win by more than they did, a loss for the Boomers but a good loss if you can call it that.

Brazil 75 (Barbosa 16, Huertas 15, Varejao 12) def Australia 71 (Mills 20, Ingles 15, Andersen 14, Baynes 10)

In NBL news Perth and Cairns played a pre-season game in Port Hedland today that the Wildcats won 84-66. Top scorers for the Wildcats were Shawn Redhage with 21 and former 36er Everard Bartlett with 15. The Taipans were led by another former 36er in Brad Hill with 16.

i reckon australia had close to 20 turn overs?
and brasil wouldnt of been far behind either,
aus definately had their chances.
1/11 or so from behind the arc at one stage
then they actually hit 4 or 5 in the last qtr which helped.

What did you lads think of Patty Mills game?

Joe Ingles and David Anderson were great in the second half

Mills was great i thought, but did shoot a lot. 1/9 from 3 point line at one stage i think?

was it ingles dunk int eh second half? that was pretty nice highlight,
i missed bits during the game so dont remember all of it.

vellavidova (i never know how to spell his name) is a gun to.
been a big fan of his at st marys also.

Lost by 4 but how many free throws did we miss? Guys at that level should go at 70% at worst

I thought Patty had an ordinary game, I think he shot 9/24 from the field and 1/9 on 3pts. Clearly he has to reign it in a bit but at the same time as always with us the other guys are just way too hesitant offensively. It was only around halfway through the 4th down by 12 or something we threw caution to the wind and started playing a bit more carefree and just jacking some up which was when Andersen and Ingles who were both having ordinary games to that point came into their own.

I like Mills but he's not a great shooter and shouldn't really be attempting anymore than 4 or 5 3pts a game, 9 is just unacceptable especially when you've only made one all night. He can burn anyone with his speed (I remember Chris Paul being killed by Patty in Beijing) so if no trust in the other guys should be able to get to the hole at will.

We shot 11/14 (79%) on FT's last night or did you mean 3 pointers?

We were 4/22 (18%) on 3pts and they were 2/15 (13%), we especially Mills just settled for too many last night.

Thats where I think Newley has really gone backwards. Not that he was anywhere near the shooter Durant is but since he left the NBL five years ago he's really struggled with his shot in Greece, Turkey, Lithuania and now Spain. We really need the old Newley back but even so I thought Peter Crawford deserved a run when we got down by 12 as aside from being a very streaky Shane Heal type shooter he almost has no conscience and if given the green light will shoot himself into a streak but in saying that we did very well to get back in it thanks to Andersen & Ingles without Crawford.

I agree Gozu, I thought he was very ordinary. One stage in the last quarter he threw himself on the floor like he did in an NBL where he got the foul even though he wasnt touched. I would have given Crawford some minutes in his place.

Yeah when the warm up games started coming towards an end his court time diminished greatly (same as Barlow) so doubt he'll see much action unless we're getting blownout or doing the blowing out.

I really can't stand his flopping and over exaggerated contact stuff but yeah like you said he's been doing it for a while now and doesn't look like he's going to get it out of his system. I think Crawford deserves more minutes if Newley or Ingles are struggling but also I would've liked to see newly minted 36ers signing Adam Gibson get some of Patty's minutes.

I'm tryinjg not to be too harsh on Patty though because without him who would take the initiative offensively? The rest of the guys almost play like deers in headlights in these big tournaments. The last World Championships in 2010 were difficult to watch because of it, we'd get down big and other guys would still be second guessing themselves.

Besides the shooting too much what I saw of mills I thought was good
Also in Olympics is it pretty much any contact is a foul?
Seemed to call a lot of what I saw

Maybe I'm just real bias towards mills as guy from work knows him so I'm even more of a fan

I think Mills was trying to carry the team so he can prove to the NBA that he should b gettin more minutes... But yeh he did shoot to many 3 balls. I love his defence tho

Mills is the only player with good dribble penetration and can create a shot off the dribble. I really think this is where we fall down, just not enough players who can create their own shot
