Did I read the News Ltd Report right that the 36ers are going to use an import spot on a kid straight from US High School? 1 year contract then off to the NBA Draft?

Seems a risky move to me......

Yep apparently a gun, can do this now there are three import spots available. The kid has already won three gold medals playing for the USA in junior comps. Talks that this might end up, all going well, a permanent development thing. Reckon Randles brother might end up here at some stage.

ah 3 imports takes a bit of risk out of it. Being straight from High School he's not going to cost much......

That is the tough thing about scouting imports for the NBL they are all keen to come to Australia until they see the cash on offer then it becomes a battle.

I'm a little bit concerned about us possibly signing this kid. He is supposedly projected to be a first-round pick in next years NBA draft but I can't see him having a big impact coming straight out of high school. Stephen Jackson came out here and played for the Kings right out of high school and struggled got cut but then went on to become a borderline NBA all-star.

I just have concerns about the physicality and maturity to play at this level but at the same time he's not going to want to act up because it will effect where he gets drafted next year. At least he's not going to be relied upon to carry us like a traditional import might we've got Randle & DJ to do the heavy lifting so this import SF spot was probably always going to be taking a flyer on a project but I do hope if we sign this kid we sign a veteran big bodied PF with the other import spot.

Congrats to 36ers star Jerome Randle and former 36er Boomers big man Brock Motum on winning the championship in Lithuania. Randle was named the LKL's Finals MVP as his BC Zalgiris defeated BC Neptunas (which featured former King and now current Wildcat Angus Brandt) 3-2 in the Finals series.

Zalgiris won their 6th consecutive championship.

Jammy bastards!

Can't ask for 2 better recruits than Newley and Maric. Really not liking how this season is shaping up.

Don't forget Kevin Lisch! The Kings certainly look to be a much improved team from last season.

The Lucas Walker era at the 36ers comes to an end.

Under the new rules this season, the Sixers now look set to sign three imports, and with the additional signatures of tyros Anthony Drmic and Majok Deng, could not fit Walker into the roster.

“Obviously (coach) Joey (Wright) has had to make that call but with three imports, Anthony Drmic and Majok Deng, we couldn’t fit Lucas in,” 36ers chief executive officer Guy Hedderwick said.

“We really loved having him as part of the 36ers family and are sorry to lose him.”

To date. the 36ers only formally have signed one import, 2015-16 pocket dynamo Jerome Randle.

Daniel Johnson, Mitch Creek, Brendan Teys, Nathan Sobey, Matt Hodgson and Adam Doyle all have deals for 2016-17.

That only leaves two spots in the expanded 11-man roster and those will go to the two imports alongside Randle.

Finally now official the 36ers have signed 18 year old import Terrance Ferguson a 6'7" SG straight out of high school at Advance Preparatory International in Dallas. As he's not yet ether 19 or one year removed from high school he wasn't eligible for the NBA draft until next year where he is projected to be a first-round pick.

Also the Illawarra Hawks have re-signed forward Tim Coenraad to a 1 year deal.

The NBL have released the 2016/17 season schedule. Notes are the schedule will again feature 19 rounds but instead of being a Wednesday-Sunday dominant schedule will instead lean more towards Friday-Sunday with some Thursday night games and trying out some Monday night games. Every game will again be televised on Fox Sports. The 36ers will be playing a game on New Year's Day against Melb United in Melbourne.

The Boomers Olympic team for Rio has been announced and the big shock is that Brad Newley has missed the cut.

BASKETBALL: The 12 players tasked with bringing home Australia’s first Olympic men’s basketball medal have been finalised for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Despite injury Andrew Bogut has been given until the last minute to prove his fitness and play at his third Olympic Games alongside five other players with Olympic experience.

David Andersen will become one of only eight Australian men to compete at four Olympic Games in Rio, Patty Mills and Joe Ingles are off to their third Games while newly crowned NBA champion Matthew Dellavedova and Aron Baynes return after helping the side to 7th at the London 2012 Games.

Chris Goulding, Ryan Broekhoff, Cameron Bairstow, Brock Motum, Kevin Lisch and Damian Martin will make their Olympic debut as the side looks to climb onto the Rio podium.
