2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup

I thought a specific thread for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain might be a good idea. Formerly known as the World Championships the tournament starts on the 30th August and finishes on the 14th September.

In great news for Australians the ABC have announced they will be televising every Boomers game, every Team USA game and every game from the Quarter-Final stage onwards.

ABC's coverage of the World Cup keeps getting better with the announcement of a nightly WC wrap TV show.

Hosted by Dave Thornton and Ronny Chieng, the special premiere episode of Double Dribble airs on Saturday 30 August at 8:50pm AEST and continues every night of the tournament at 8:20pm AEST on ABC2.

The coverage of the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup tips-off with a bang this weekend, with the premiere of Double Dribble leading into the Airbnb Boomers opening game against Slovenia on Sunday at 1:26am (AEST) on ABC2 before Team USA face Finland at 5:18am (AEST) on ABC.

The commentary team for the games will be the SANFL's own John Casey & Shane Heal.

Australia typically loses a winnable international tournament game and the USA third string line-up destroys Finland who beat us in a warm up tournament! Good coverage by the ABC too!
Piss weak SANFL and the CLOWNS who run it.

In all fairness though Lithuania & Slovenia would've been expected to finish 1 and 2 in our group but in saying that we never really looked like winning. Hopefully the injury to Baynes isn't too bad.

The Boomers did flog Finland too in our last warm up game against them.

Supposedly Ingles knocked back a 2 year non-guaranteed deal with Memphis (the same type of deal Brock Motum just got with the Jazz) last offseason to play in Israel, madness IMO. Even if you can make more in Europe you don't knock back the chance to play in the NBA even if only for a year, I still remember when Simon Dwight knocked back a deal from Charlotte because he didn't think he was ready.

In saying that supposedly Philadelphia and a couple of other NBA teams are thinking about offering Ingles a deal and I don't think he'll knock it back this year especially after how the situation turned out in Israel playing time wise even though his team Maccabi Tel Aviv won the Euroleague championship. Interestingly Maccabi's coach Dave Blatt has now gone to the NBA to coach Cleveland and Maccabi have just signed aussie big man Aleks Maric.
