Well done to Mitch Creek hopefully he impresses in training camp and makes the Brooklyn Nets roster.

The 26-year-old also impressed the Nets during his workouts at the team’s training facility in mid-June.

Creek's contract is understood to include an Exhibit 10 clause, meaning the Nets have the option to convert the deal into a two-way contract at any time prior to the regular season.

It essentially provides the Aussie with the opportunity to attend training camp with three potential outcomes.

The best case scenario will see him perform so well that the Nets sign him to their opening night roster. Given Brooklyn's current roster, the franchise's focus on recruiting good people and head coach Kenny Atkinson’s fondness for mobile forwards, that is seen as a genuine possibility.

Secondly, the Nets may decide following training camp to convert Creek’s deal into a two-way contract, meaning he will split time between Brooklyn and their G-League affiliate, the Long Island Nets.

The third possibility will occur if the Nets waive Creek prior to the start of the regular season. Exhibit 10 deals provide financial incentives for players to stick with the team’s G-League affiliate if they don’t make the opening night roster and do not have their contract converted into a two-way.

That outcome will see Creek play the season with Long Island under newly-appointed head coach Will Weaver and Aussie assistant Damian Cotter, former head coach of the Sydney Kings.

Weaver has developed a strong relationship with Creek over recent years through his role as an assistant coach of the Australian National Team.

Also in other news the Perth Wildcats have completed their roster with the signing of import Terrico White a 6'5" combo guard. He was drafted by the Detroit Pistons in 2010 and has most recently been playing in South Korea where he just led his team to the championship and was the Grand Final MVP.

Jacob Wiley is a 6'8" PF who aside from playing five games for the Brooklyn Nets last season also played in Germany. He funnily enough was just also a teammate of Mitch Creek's on the Dallas Mavs Summer League team.

The 36ers have announced they've re-signed club captain Brendan Teys to a 1 year deal.

Also the Brisbane Bullets have signed the first player from Japan in NBL history in Makoto Hiejima a 6'3" combo guard who can be signed as a local under the NBL's Asian Player rule. He is currently a member of the Japanese national team and has been playing in the B-League in Japan.

Interesting - Has training camp deal with Milwaukee, he mustn't think he will get a guaranteed contract after the camp or he is using this as his insurance.

I really like Trice I think he's a top shelf PG but two things are he has a training camp invite from Milwaukee on the table and having never played in the NBA before I would think that would be pretty hard to walk away from and secondly someone posted the Trice to 36ers rumour on another forum and it was swiftly deleted by the admin as trolling.

I hope like hell it's true he would be a great fit for us but I've also heard rumours the club is struggling financially and that it will be Adris Deleon who previously played under Joey at the Gold Coast Blaze and is now in his mid-30's.

I didn’t know that had been posted elsewhere

Would think with Creek off the books and the Crows involved there would be money available. Crowds were also good last season.

Started preseason today and no announcement of a third import so makes sense they are waiting to see if Trice gets signed in the NBA

Maybe Deleon will be backup if Trice plays NBA

The NBL season would've likely already started by the time they find out if Trice had made the Bucks roster or not.

Trice believes he will get a contract, so Deleon to be announced by Friday.

I generally doubt Joeys older imports selection but he always seems to get them to play for him.

The Sydney Kings have announced they will be taking advantage of the NBL's new 'Next Stars' initiative to sign 19 yo Brian Bowen a 6'7" SF who despite being American will not count as an import this season. The Next Stars initiative was set up to attract 'one and done' players who instead of going to college would prefer to play somewhere professionally for a year before becoming eligible for the next NBA Draft. He played his high school ball at La Lumiere school in Indiana.

http://nbl.com.au/news/article/43188-sy ... -next-star

Bowen trying to replicate what Terrance Ferguson and the 36ers did in the 2016-17 season.

Speaking of the 36ers I can't read the article as it's behind the paywall but it's now come to light the club are seeking an injunction to block Mitch Creek's signing with the Brooklyn Nets because the club believe they are entitled to compensation for him. It's a sad and unfortunate decision they've made to not only sour a possible future relationship with Creek but it sends a terrible message to players around the rest of the league and damages the club's brand both here and internationally.

Couldn't afford to re-sign him.

Some more on the Mitch Creek situation.

The Adelaide 36ers have gone to court in Australia to stop Mitch Creek from signing with the Brooklyn Nets without compensation of at least $100,000 Australian. or roughly $75,000 US.

Under international rules, a player must receive clearance from his current team before joining a team in another country.

According to the Adelaide Advertiser, the 36ers hope to resolve the issue within 24 hours permitting the 26-year-ld Creek to accept a camp invite from the Nets. Creek has been working out with the 36ers.

Creek had one year of a three-year deal left to run with the 36ers in the 2018-19 season but triggered his European/NBA out clause to join a top-level German club, Wurzberg. Wurzberg gave Creek its clearance but Adelaide claims it must get its approval as well.

“We are ensuring in the event that he gets a spot on the final roster that there is some sort of compensation (for Adelaide),” 36ers chief executive Ben Kavenagh told The Advertiser.

So we basically won't see him again in a 36ers uniform because this will turn sour

I don't mind them playing hard ball with the NBA. Why should we be screwed over by Brooklyn? If the regulations state we must be compensated and Brooklyn are not doing that, then good on them for holding out.

Is destroying your relationship with Mitch Creek, severely damaging your relationships with the other 36ers players & the coach and also staining your team name to players & coaches around the NBL and also internationally with future imports and the NBA too worth it for $100K?
