It's a shame but it was expected that Mitch Creek would exercise his opt out clause to pursue NBA opportunities. I'm just glad it's happened now and not right on the eve of the season or worse during the season because it would just be too disruptive to the roster.

The big news of the day though was the Perth Wildcats announcing they've re-signed import and reigning league MVP Bryce Cotton to a 3 year deal.

The Wildcats look like they're again going to be quite formidable next season.

Boris Nagy suggesting that Adelaide dropped the ball on Mitch Creek as they focused on other players and just didn’t worry about signing the club MVP. Just presumed he would stay

They didn't need to sign Creek he was already under contract anyway.

Not according to Boti. Mitch had a option to go on in his contact but we never got around to getting him signed

Well both sets of players are in their off-season's and international basketball is usually lower scoring with traditional half court sets which also slows up the pace. Our guys only begun training together last week and being exhibition games there isn't anything up for grabs. Then you factor in international refs which usually call games pretty tight anyway and the notoriously one sided refs you get in China too.

Fortunately we've sent one of our own refs over to help this time in Vaughan Mayberry to try and guard against it but even then there were still some howlers tonight but nothing compared to some calls I've both seen and heard about in the past.

A few NBL teams used to go over there and play pre-season games but got completely hosed by their refs too many times and stopped going. Funnily enough one of those teams was Brian Goorjian's Sydney Kings teams and Goorjian has now been based in China for nearly 10 years and is even sitting on their bench as he's an assistant coach of their national team.

That's true but that's really more an American thing say like NBA All-Star games where the final scoreline is usually say 150-140. No one wants to be seen trying too hard. In international games they often go the other way and play really hard defence and the offence goes out the window.

To be fair across both games the shooting has been pretty poor contested or wide open Goulding and especially Cadee aren't dying wondering that's for sure it's insipid offence at times but even if shots were being knocked down games would only be in the 70's.

Personally I know I much prefer to see intensity even if low scoring versus too cool for school glorified scrimmage stuff.

I should add too one thing I've enjoyed seeing in this series is Wang Zhelin for China. He's way too big and strong for our guys down low even for Angus Brandt and like a lot of the big asians has soft hands and nice touch around the basket. He looks like he's got legit NBA potential.

Same. Good defence is probably harder to play than good offence.
