As a few posters have stated previously this season, I went along to the Wildcats game last night. I think it's the first game of basketball i've seen at this level for about 35 years!

As others have stated, everything is a good product except for the actual play of the 36ers. A crowd of approx 9500 there last night.

My uneducated observations and I can be pretty harsh critic for someone who's has no playing experience at any level

36ers were outplayed. Wildcats were just better in all facets of the game. Pure and simple. 36ers shooting appeared to pretty poor. Many times I thought they were in good positions to make the shot and it just didn't go in, particularly from close in.

Wildcats looked clean and fast with their ball movement, organised in their movements as individuals and as a team. They knew they could score where as 36ers were hoping they could score.

Bryce Cotton is a smart man. It took an overt display of whinging to the refs early in 2nd quarter after a non foul call (admittedly I thought he was being held) to get them on side and from then on got he got a very good ride on the 50/50 calls.

Wildcats Dylan Windler is a smooth mover and sweet shot.

So it's another big loss for the 36ers yet the fans continue to come and most home games have either been close to or have been sold out. Does the home crowd numbers reflect the resilient mentality of a basketball supporter? The team is not great and they're getting pumped by big margins. It got me thinking as if the average follower comes to the game because they love the sport as much as if not more than the team? IE If someone with buckets of money wanted to launch a new team based in Adelaide would it see fans walk to the new team or stay with 36ers because they love the team?

I think basketball in general is big here in Adelaide.
I go each week and there is always crowds of 9-10 thousands each game.

I take my 2 teenage kids each game and it’s the product and atmosphere they like not necessarily the team.

As with this generation of kids, winning isn’t really as important as the day/game itself.

I’d love to see another Adelaide team in the NBL.
I’d also like to see a new purpose built stadium to host them and the 36ers.

Can’t see it happening anytime soon though to due to building costs at the moment.
There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.

NBL is a very entertaining product
I'm now into my 2nd season of following and have watched most games
Agree with AF, a 2nd SA team, with Derbies would be good

I remember about 20 years ago there was some legit talk about getting a second team up in Adelaide but nothing came of it. I really don't think we have the population/interest for a second team. Perth's a bigger city and more basketball mad than us getting 13k every home game but the Wildcats brand is so strong there they know a second Perth team just wouldn't be sustainable.

We just need the muppet that owns the 36ers to sell it so we can get back to a sense of normalcy. The talk is he's been trying to sell the team for the last few years and is willing to sell cheap but LK as owner of the NBL doesn't want him to sell cheap as it would devalue all the other teams so supposedly LK has stepped in and funding/overseeing the 36ers now with the owner taking a back seat.

Very sad news with the passing of 36ers legend Darryl "The Iceman" Pearce who was the starting shooting guard on the 36ers inaugural NBL championship team "The Invincibles" in 1986. He has been inducted into both the Adelaide 36ers Hall of Fame in 2021 and the Australian Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002.

The 36ers will wear black armbands and observe a moment of silence in tonight's home game against the Illawarra Hawks.

https://www.adelaide36ers.com/news/vale-darryl-pearce

RIP

I believe another 36ers legend Daniel Johnson was going to have his number retired to the rafters at tonight's game but not sure if that is still going to happen now.

Updated:

Looks like DJ's jersey retirement is still going ahead tonight:

One of the NBL’s all-time greats will be immortalised tonight, with Daniel Johnson having his iconic No. 21 jersey hung in the rafters at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.
