Absolute madness. Penrith looked absolutely gassed and Brisbane were running them off their feet. This is the most amazing team I’ve seen to come back from that.
They deserve to go down as one of the all time greats

Mortimer in 84 kept Parra camped on their line

As a long time Parra member I do recall those (some more fondly than others) but I thought Cleary topped that tonight. That 20-25 minutes was just stunning

Two brilliant games today. The NRLW grand final was a belter. Knights looked gone for all money then two individual pieces of brilliance by Dally M medalist Tamika Upton won the game for Newcastle. Amazing finish

I thought the game last night was all over at 18-8, let alone 24-8. Penrith just seemed to find another gear from that point. Incredible fightback.

Steven Crighton was amazing as well, best centre in the game. Triple Premiership player now.

Incredible how different the NRL are to AFL, he announced in January he had signed a four year deal with Canterbury Bulldogs from 2024. But everyone just accepts that, he plays awesome all season and they don’t win the flag without him.

Would be like Dusty Martin saying he is moving to the Gold Coast in 2025, should be accepted similarly to the Crighton situation but just feel we are still a fair way off this being part of the AFL

Yeah, It’s been happening for years and a completely different culture in the NRL. Players and fans mostly just accept it as far as 2 years out and just want the player to give 100% for the time they have remaining and to their credit most if not all players do. With no drafting or trading it’s far easier than the AFL to move as you don’t have to worry about satisfying your current club with draft picks or compensation.

Since 2020 Penrith has 88 wins 16 losses 1 draw at a staggering 84% including 9 finals wins in a row, 3 minor premierships and of course the threepeat.

I'm pretty sure after the 84 GF the rules were actually changed because of Mortimer - bit like the rushed behind law after the 2008 GF. He highlighted the flaw in the laws at the time

It used to be a ball caught in the in goal area was a goal line drop out but they change it that bomb caught in the in goal area became a 3/4 (20 m tap).

Basically Canterbury had a 1st half try to Bugden I think then for the rest of the game Mortimer schooled Parra with his kicking game forcing repeated goal line drop outs under the old law and then play behind the line to mow down any line breaks

it was an outstanding game

A dour 6-4 win under the defensive master of Warren ryan, they backed it up next year 5-4 over St George

Parra got their revenge in 86 with 4-2 win. Expansive but a least there were proper play the balls and scrums a unlike todays version of touch footy with tackling
