Could it be as simple as a dry ink cartridge from the printer...?

You might have to replace maybe 4 of them every 3 months.... ;)

Cost $ 100 - $120

Always upgrade the printer. ;)

Do your homework. :D

I have a canon pixma that costs me around the same.. :D

But it's a photo lab.

Others more bright will have better solutions. ;)
Smile :)

It's only Money $$$ :)

What is happening to our SANFL guys...

It does sound like you are just out of black ink, or it has dried up in the ink pathways and blocked them, which can happen if the printer is not regularly used.
Dog_ger has a valid point that it is often cheaper to buy a new printer than new cartridges for it although this source can help: http://www.valueprint.net.au/
I've decided to stick with laser printers - modern ink jets are cheap but die quickly.

ok. soooooo......

the computer was telling me that the black ink was full, but after reading the suggestions on here, i went out nd grabbed a new black cartridge. the othe 3 colors i replaced yesterday. still no results.

when i try and print just a page of black writing, the printer actually does what it would normally do if it was working, but the ink just isn't coming out. the message is getting from the computer to the printer, just not from the printer to the paper.

I have had the same problem recently printing at my dads place.

But makesure "Grayscale Printing" is selected in your printer options.

From the Start Menu, Printers & Faxes > select your printer > Printer > Properties > Printing Preferences > Grayscale Printing.

It worked for me, hope it fixes your issue.

I've had that sort of thing happen on two occasions.

One was when I tried to put a generic replacement in a printer that refused to recognise it as a new cartridge. It was cheaper to get another printer than buy the "original" cartridge.
The other was a printer I'd left standing for a while and the ink dried up in the pathways in the carriage that held the cartridges.
I tried flushing them out with various solvents but it didn't work - and replacing that part was 1.5 times the original cost of the printer it came in.

That's why I gave up on ink jets.
