Has anyone bought a mobile phone from Hong Kong?
I am looking at a mobile from the following website http://www.dealextreme.com/products.dx/category.511~page.1.
Do they work on Australian networks?
Do you get stung with Customs?

It'll be dead inside 3 months. They are poorly manufactured and are the 'real' disposable phone.

I bought one from Taipei through a contact who went there on business, and paid him for the "gift" later, so I don't know what he did about customs.
The overall price in 2004, at $300, was considerably less that I could get any really compact unlocked mobile for in Melbourne at the time.
It worked fine here, and came with two batteries. The second has just died, and I can't get a replacement locally.
It has been losing charge fast this year, and I anticipated its death and bought an unlocked Nokia 7100 from Dick Smith for $149 in March 2010.

Thanks all.
I thought it may have been worth the risk for the price.

No downside.
I'm still in awe of its capabilities.
I do lots of my posts from him.

Trust me it is AMAZING

Probably already made your choice, but for anyone else considering.
I have yet to find a downside, the only downside was groups. Which is all fixed via an app download.
I have had an iPod since close to release and unless I am travelling to Adelaide, I hardly use it.
But the iPod feature in the iPhone does get a bit of use.

I can't complain about my new mobile deal.
I was on iSIM but Virgin bought them and closed them down trying to push all customers to Virgin's plans.
I found and transferred to Slimtel in mid July.

By now was concerned that something had gone wrong somewhere as I suddenly noticed I'd never had an account or seen a charge to my credit card from Slimtel at all.
So today I rang them - the reply, "Your use is so low we haven't bothered to bill it, but we put a charge through on November 8th for $2.07."
OK, I do contact friends to arrange meeting mostly by email, and I make and receive the majority of my calls in my Internode VOIP service which also takes messages and emails me.
But I have been using the mobile as needed for convenience, without any thought of skimping on the cost.

Looking for a phone for the missus.

I have the iPhone4 and am happy with it but she thinks it's too big*

I've tried to explain that any smaller and the qwerty keyboard is unusable and the screens are crap.

Anyway, narrowed it down to the HTC Aria, HTC Wildfire, HTC HD mini, Nokia C6-01 ... if she persists in smaller then the Nokia is the pick of the bunch, but it hasn't been officially released here as far as I can tell.

If I can talk sense into her then the Samsungs (Galaxy S, Omnia Icon, Wave), or HTCs (Desire, Desire HD or 7 Trophy) look the goods.

She wouldn't know Windows Mobile, Symbian or Android if it hit her so not fussy (currently has a very aging Moto v9).

Any personal experiences welcome.

I use a HTC Desire.

Awesome!

Misses uses a Samsung Galaxy and she's had no issues with it either.

Android FTW!
