Hi all

Am looking at buying some Italian movies on DVD for Nanna for christmas. I know I have to buy region 4 films, but have also seen region 0 (as well as all region).

Can I buy region 0 dvd's? (I'm assuming I can buy all region ones)

My brother's old Sony DVD player also plays the US DVDs

My 5 year old Panasonic DVD player doesn't

I vaguely remember reading some years ago that, at that time, players would swap zones a few times before they finally locked into one.

You can buy Region 0 DVD's but most DVD players are multi regional these days anyhow.
if you buy a multi region DVD player it wont matter what movie you buy.

I was told that it illegal for DVD's to have "All Regions" stickers on them.
My player has zone 4 on it but it plays all zones

It might be illegal to have a region 0 sticker on it, but not a region 0 player.
For example, the local strathf***ds dealer will be more than happy to sell you a region 4 player, stick a cd in it to make it region 0 and off you go..

So your saying that the $50 AWA cheapy player that I bought my Nanna for christmas last year will probably be multi zone, tried looking in the instruction booklet last night, but it didnt tell me anything...

With DVD players I would say the cheaper the more likely it is to play any region.
I bought a $40 sansui player 2 years ago, it plays any region and hasn't missed a beat.
I reckon if I put dog turds into it, it would start barking.

Just love google.

I bought some DVDs once that were "All Regions". Wouldn't play in my LG $900 DVD recorder but would play in my $50 cheapy, ended up burning it so that it was No Regions and it works fine in the LG too.
Worst comes to worst and you get something that's the wrong region a bit of free software and a DVD burner will fix it up for you.
