The Cheek of TPG!!!

Postby Wedgie » Fri Mar 31, 2006 9:21 am

I've been with TPG for a while on their various ADSL plans, pretty happy with my last/current plan which was $49.95 a month, 20gb download limit (before throttled at 64k) at speed of 1.5mb down 256k up.
In the past I've always found being on a contract that when your contract runs out a better one will become available, but even before my current contract ran out I get this email:

Dear Valued Customer,

The ADSL Broadband plan you are currently subscribed to is no longer available due to a significant Telstra wholesale price increase.

In order for you to continue receiving TPG's Broadband service you need to move to another ADSL plan.

Please advise us of your choice by visiting https://cyberstore.tpg.com.au/register/change_plan.php and selecting the appropriate new plan. You will need to make your selection by 13/04/2006.
The standard $59.00 change of plan fee will not apply, nor will contract periods.

If no selection is made by 13/04/2006, you will be moved to our Value 1500/10G ADSL plan. This plan includes unlimited downloads and is throttled to 64k once 10GB is exceeded per month.

As soon as ADSL2+ service becomes available at your exchange we will offer you FREE migration to our ADSL2+ plans http://www.tpg.com.au/dslam

Remember: ** visit https://cyberstore.tpg.com.au/register/change_plan.php to make your new plan selection
** select your new plan before 13/04/2006

We appreciate your understanding, and thank you for your ongoing support.

Yours faithfully

TPG Internet

How friggen rude is that? The plan they'll auto put me on costs $10 more per month with only 10 gb limit instead of 20gb!!!
Stuff that, Ive set the balls in motion to join Internode on ADSL2, same price as what I would have been with TPG, more download, better service and much quicker!!

Mate - welcome to ADSL these days =)

Adam Internet just raised ALL their prices and there was a huge backlash. TPG are doing the same now it seems.

I was on WestNet and they were excellent - voted best ISP in Australia. But unfortunately, they couldn't and hadn't sourced wholesale ADSL2 ports so ADSL2 was out of the question.

I churned over to Internode 1st of Feb and it's been great. I'm being migrated to ADSL2 in April sometime (Modbury Exchange) so I'll go from 1500/256 to the extreme "+" speeds (unsure how fast, don't know about the distance from exchange).

Internode aren't the cheapest. But, they have set their prices to what they beleive will last - rather than some places making less money and charging less money, and then putting up prices not long after.

My plan is $79 a month for 40gig (which is ADSL1 but is the same price for ADSL2). The amount of crap I download is well worth the money!

The exchange is enbabled, its just a matter of if it I can get my phoneline enabled, could kill a few birds with one stone as I was looking at getting a wireless router with 4 ports when my laptop gets back from repairs so I've put in an order for one with internode.

Im a fair distance from the exchange as I took my number with me when I moved from Reynella to Happy Valley, probably still not that far though.
I was going to fork out for a wireless moden with 4 ports, etc anyway.

Yeah but there's forking out, and there's forking out!

Keeping your number should affect the distance - your distance to the exchange is the same regardless of the number you have!
Your house is hardwired to an exchange and that can't change.

Boo! My ISP has been sold recently but they're keeping mum on who to. Rumours abound about TPG, Telstra. Whatever happens you can bet it means more $$$$

ADSL2 kicked, man on man, how awesome is it?
I'm downloading stuff at up to half a meg a second!
Also great to have a decent upload speed to even out some of my share ratios on torrent sites.
