Samsung are very good, one of the quietest going around too. If I didn't already have a 320gb external and hadn't recently purchased another 640gb internal I would have jumped at this. Great deal!

PS I bought an Aspire 1 netbook for my daughter last December on zazz and it still hasnt dropped to the same price at retail outlets.

Purchased. Have been on the lookout for an external drive and at that price you would be stupid not to.

Good price at $135 (delivered) but the enclosure is USB only which means it will be slow, so if that's not an issue then go for it.

Alternatively you could purchase a ITb drive and put it in an eSata enclosure for not a hell of a lot more, with a significant performance improvement.

USB 3 is due soon, and will be faster than eSATA, so USB 2 products will be being cleared.

Maybe, but it's essentially vapourware at the moment and it will take some considerable time before it becomes mainstream.

Just to be pedantic, USB3 is unlikely to be faster than SATA2. Even though USB3 is rated at 5.0Gbs and SATA2 at 3.0Gbs, these are burst speeds and SATA will always give you much better throughput.

And SATA3, rated at 6.0Gbs, is next.

Just to put it into perspective, it is unlikely a SATA HDD will saturate SATA 1.5Gb bandwidth (let alone SATA2 3.0Gbs) but solid state drives are approaching the SATA2 limit of 3.0Gbs, so a move to 6.0Gbs will certainly help the very top end of town.

Then there's SAS but that's another story in itself.

Anyway that's all just theory, so time will tell just how USB3 will perform in the real world ... the fact is that USB has now been well established in the marketplace so any performance improvement is welcome if it can be harnessed properly.

Speed isn't a big issue, I want it mainly to put photos on and home movies, so I bought one.

Then you've done well and it's a good buy.

Yes, all true dedja. I expect a drop in USB 2 prices will herald the release of USB 3.
Among SSDs I note the Intel X25-M 80GB is one of the faster ones on offer, at 259.9 MB/s burst speed on test.
I haven't got a "round the traps" retail price on it but the slightly slower, but 128GB, Patriot Warp v3 is being offered retail at about $730.
Even though I can get it wholesale I'll wait a while yet!

Yes SSD prices will come down and it will definitely pay to be patient, although I'm not sure how much of the consumer end of the market it will penetrate, so you will always have to pay a premium, just how much in the longer term is the question.

I still have the receipt for a 20Gb IDE HDD (which is now a paperweight) I bought many years ago ... for well over $200! And who remembers when 1x CD burners were over $1000?

I can top that - in 1988 I paid $200 to upgrade my 10MB HDD to the "massive" 20MB one "you could never possibly fill".

Bought a Seagate 1TB external drive last week for $149 from Officeworks - still happy with that in light of the Zazz offer because:

(A) it looks great and has an auto-off function which is perfect for my media centre;
(B) almost everything I've ever bought from Zazz has had to be returned due to faults and
(C) the latest JB catalogue has the 500mb version of same for $169 so I reckon I did Ok.

I sold 16MB of EDO Ram to someone when I worked at Radio Rentals.. I reckon it was $1600 at the time.
Eww. Circa '96 maybe

I bought a 3.2Gig HDD (large one too, 5 1/4") for $390, that was probably around '98

Yeah I don't have much luck with them, but I'm a sucker for punishment I guess. The good thing is that they refund quickly, no questions asked, just a shame they don't test their products a little more rigorously. A case in point being a recent DVR which looked the goods but ended up being a complete dud - didn't even play audio from HDTV and DVD files! Pretty much everyone returned them, must have cost them a packet.

Oh well, as you said at least they refund, Ive found them pretty good on answering questions about specs before sales.
Much better than Ebay, I havent used Ebay after I got ripped off about $70 and Ebay nor paypal would do anything about it. No refund, no product, no nothing.
Im sticking with zazz! :D

I think my mate in the business [in Pulteney St] was doing it for about $50 a Meg then. That would have been just before I started my reseller operation.
