PS3 HD Upgrade

Postby Dutchy » Wed Sep 23, 2009 12:47 pm

I need to upgrade my hard drive on my PS3 as it is only one of the old 40 gig ones, find that when I record something long like the SANFL on the weekend it takes up 11 gig!

Ive rung a few places but doesn anyone know or recommend anyone good to get this done pretty quickly?

Ive always had chips put in at gamefix on Henley Beach Rd, have up to a 2 week turnaround but can be as low as 2 days and I reckon they'd do things like that. Always have warranty periods too.
I think their website is gamefix.com.au from memory.

Any 2.5 inch SATA drive will do.

There is also step by step instructions in the PS3 operating manual.

There's nothing to look at Dutchy (except for some boxes) as its just a shopfront. It is very cheap, its where I buy all my computer parts.(I recently built a PC that would retail for more than $1500 at most stores for less than $800) Just ring them beforehand to make sure what you want is in stock as the people at the desk aren't interested in a discussion just turnover. While stuff is guaranteed the return policy is extremely limited too.

This is a project a mate and I will be doing pretty soon now footy season is over (for me anyway) and my weekends are free. We will be doing it ourselves and the $117 HDD is an absolute bargain, will need to drop by MSY after work one day.

I'd also like to know how you go, how easy it is etc.. also need to work out how to back everything up.

Will PS3s allow an external HDD ot be plugged in or can they be networked to a computer for back up?

Yeah good, HD content has been skipping but think that is partly due to not having much space on the HD...will be good to test it now Ive got plenty of space

Other than that its great....with the exchange rate you could now get it for around $100, its supposed to be released in AUS later this year and hopefully a software update due shortly will hopefully allow us to export content off the PS3, about the only drawback IMO
