Cannot Install Printers

Hi Boffins,
I recently had a "Print Spool Error", which I believe was caused by a Trojan (AVG's opinion), which I have healed (again, according to AVG...)
My problem is- I canno install either Adobe PDF printer, or plug n play my Brother Printer, even after downloading drivers etc.

Please help?

AVG has limitations in my experience.
I'd download the free Comodo Internet Security and install its Comodo Antivirus component and run another scan.
(Its automatic install gives you the whole suite which involves un-installing, or disabling, any other software firewall you have, but Custom install lets you just install the Antivirus - or it did when I did it.)

I ran into a similar problem, and Comodo cleaned up both my computers where my previous antivirus had failed.
However, one of them's OS was damaged enough for me to have to reinstall it from scratch.

Punk, free internet security is carp.

I use and can recomend Trend Micro Titanium internet security 2012.

I don't like paying for internet security because in my oppinion, your internet provider should supply it.

Bottom Line, you get what you pay for. Your computer system doesn't come cheap. Why put it at risk be using free security.  :D

Re-install your version of windows.

Based on your extensive technology experience?

Microsoft Security Essentials is a mature and safe product and I would have no hesitation to reccomend it's use to protect client devices to anyone.

On the other hand, I couldn't recommend Microsoft's Forefront product for corporates in any situation.

Right click on My Computer, Device Manager - are there any with a yellow icon?

If there are, re-install the drivers if you know how.

ok, only 1 had a yellow icon, & that related to a driver for my HDTV- all USB Controllers appear to have drivers in good working order.

I was originally happy with paying for VET antivirus. Then CA bought it and it started leaking like a sieve.
That was the last paid for product I bought, though I did have a free licence for Kaspersky that came with a product, and used it for a while.
I've also had problems with Norton and McAfee in the past, slowing down machines badly.
You don't get what you pay for - several free products out-perform most of them.

My computer reseller operation partnership in Melbourne never pushed paid for antivirus products.
They are just cream for the retailers to make good "top up" mark ups on.

In general, I'd say the full free Comodo Internet Security is a bit "techie" in the decisions it demands from the inexperienced user until it is worked in.
So, I wouldn't push it over Zone ALarm as a fire wall.
However its antivirus segment is straight forward and effective.

well Dog-ger, I had a small win- I downloaded a PDF writer which will help me for the time being.
However, I'm suspecting that the cable between printer & PC might be the issue, so off to Officeworks tomorrow I go...

I will be sure to keep you updated :)
