I know that if I swan into a Telstra shop and sign up for a new phone I can't keep my existing plan. They have told me that. But I just wanna know if I buy a new phone outright can I just whack my sim in it and all is good? Provided the sims are same size/type

I have done that with my Vodafone SIM, just so long as the phone you buy is "unlocked" or only Telstra everything is OK.

SP, If you don't need 4g you can get a much better deal for $30pm with the same network (5gb downlooad and unlimited calls/texts). :)
BTW if you're after battery life an Iphone is the last thing you should be getting, at least with other phones you can change the battery yourself without a manual/youtube guide!
My phone has 150% of the battery life of an Iphone and I can change the battery or carry a replacement if I wish. :D

Good point. 4g irrelevant to my phone useage so maybe I will simply bite the bullet and go visit a Telstra shop and discuss all this at its epicentre!

Mt Barker and surrounds are the only regional area at the moment that gets 4G I think.

Have a look here if you want detailed talk on all carriers. Also click on the Forums link to go back a step if you want to compare phones too. Heaps of discussion.

Looking to get new phone.

I have the iPhone 4 ( had it for 2 years ).

Last few weeks I have been having major issues with it. Screen keeps locking up after I did an update. Could not take calls or reply to text messages as could not use the slidder. Took it back to Optus, paid $100 on my warranty and got a crap phone from about 2001 to replace it that cost $50 (get money back after you return it).

10 days later got brand new iPhone 4 put sim card in and took it home. Would you believe Phone locked up again. Did the whole hold this and that for 10 sec and reboot the phone. No luck.

Today, back to optus with it. Phone still locked. Will take 10 days to fix it again or replace it. Asked assistant why is this happening as I need it for work. She said "you might have just got a bad run ".

So hope new Iphone coming - wife can have it for her work and i am out of the Iphone scene......bad experience has killed my love for it.

Battery life is poor too.

Now, I need a suggestion from you people. What phone to get now....looking at Android.

Options .....

Samsung S3
Xperia Z
HTC One
BByZ10

I do like the look of the Xperia Z but man, its big and in my pocket who make me look like a man on Viagra!!!

Any suggestions would be great. ;)

I use Spotify and not Itunes now....best thing out!!!!
Is out of change.....thanks Cambridge Clarrie!!!

if your worried about battery life then the htc one will be out of the question as it's around the same as the iphone4. galaxy s3 is slightly behind the iphone5, even though the s3 has a bigger battery and claims massive life, due to the larger screen doesn't live up to what is quoted, like most companies these days. if battery life is a concern then I'd be looking at doing things like dimmer screen, turning off wifi roaming when not needed, turning off bluetooth, turning to airplane mode when out of reception and the apps you use, some of them are big battery drainers.

Xperia does look good but it depends what you're after.
My main considerations were battery life and feel/size so I went for the Motorola.
It only has a duel core processor which hasnt been an issue to me yet when it comes to performance.

I wouldn't be put off by the IPhone because of locking issues, etc. You've probably just been unlucky there. For eg my old Galaxy S2 never locked but my daughters does quite often.
Just weigh up what you out want from a phone and then find the one that meets most of your needs.
I almost got a windows phone but chose an android in the end so I could keep apps, contacts, etc too.

I've also tested on a few at work and the only one I hated was one of the HTCs but I'd never get a Galaxy S3 or a Note because of their size. IMHO they're aimed more at chicks to carry around in their hand bags but I suppose if you have eyesight problems or fat fingers they might be a god send.
Good luck! :)

Thanks Wedgie.

Yeah the Xperia does look good. The graphics and pictures look amazing but its just the size of the thing that turns me off a bit. I do a bit of work in a trade so the plus with them they are water resistant and seem quite well made. (well, they look it)

It is hard to leave the IPhone though with the apps etc.....I dont use it to carry any music as I said I use Spotify now. Only use it for taking pictures of the family really and use some apps now and then. (FB, Twitter etc...)

Just wish Adelaide had a Apple store to so you could go in and get some tech advice/customer service.....I think they are coming here soon??

Cheers again ;)

I ended up buying the Sony Xperia Z and it really is awesome. I've gone from putting the hTC on charge every night to once a week. No BS - one night a week I charge this thing. It has a vastly superior loudspeaker option which I hammer, and the waterproof feature is a ripper because I dropped it in the dogs water bowl a couple of days after I bought it. No issues as a result. The camera is fully HD and gives off excellent images and movies. So all up this is a good piece of kit to tote around.
