maybe you should read the article again it doesn't say anything about only paid apps, free apps still come under purchased apps.

..um here, maybe

"I can't see any way to opt out of providing that information and it seems to be a feature of the Google checkout process. I don't know whether it applies to free apps, but there are hundreds of thousands of apps that are available for pay on the play store and there are millions of people who buy Android apps out there, I'd say easily millions or tens of millions of people.

"It's active in every market that Google accepts payment for apps. That's a lot of people having their personal information handed over without them knowing."

maybe read past the first line of the article.

Have you ever used Google Play? You dont enter any information at all unless you pay money for apps. All they have is your Gmail account, which they have whether you have an android or not...coz they're Google.

And isn't the free and paid apps in the same market google play? It doesn't say only the apps you make payment for. It's for all purchased app a free app is still a purchased app.

where does it say it only happens to apps you paid for. It's active in every MARKET that google accepts payment for apps. Unless i've missed something and apps have been changed to markets now.

And you really can't be serious trying to defend google major security flaw.

Just one more Wedgie and Im done. A little english lesson for kickinit

pur·chase
/ˈpərCHəs/
Verb
Acquire (something) by paying for it; buy.
Noun
The action of buying.
Synonyms
verb. buy - acquire - get - procure - obtain - take
noun. buy - buying - acquisition

That means you cant "purchase" something that is free.

buy
/bī/
Verb
Obtain in exchange for payment: "find some money to buy a house"; "he bought me a new dress".
Noun
A purchase.
Synonyms
verb. purchase - get - acquire - take - shop
noun. purchase - buying - bargain

That means you cant "buy" something thats free.

In conclusion...you have to purchase/buy apps for this to happen, as pointed out by your expert above. He even says he "doesnt know if FREE apps are effected".

Notice how he differenciated between free apps and ones you have to buy/purchase? Thats because they're different. And yes they are in different parts of the Google Play Market. Ones in the Paid section, and ones in the Free section.

BOOM! Im out!

Even though you haven't paid for free apps still come under your purchased app. The reason for this is if something went wrong with your phone and you lost everything you will be able to redownload the content for free. Yes it is a free app but it's incase to maker decides to put a price on it, you get it free as you had already downloaded it. Why can't he tell if free apps are effected because he doesn't make free apps so how can he tell. And yes free apps are in different sections to paid apps just like the apple store but there in the same MARKET the google play store.

For free purchases, apart from an email address, what private details are even available for them to know?

If the only thing they know is your email, I wouldn't give a toss about it to be honest

Exactly. You dont enter ANY info to Google Play if you dont pay actual money for apps. Hence no info for them the steal. Except your email, which they already have, because they own it.

No, I actually don't care.

Article mentions developers need the suburb, for tax reasons.
I assume they'll change what information gets sent anyway.

Someone somewhere always has your details. You can't buy much online without supplying anything.

It's ok to disagree. But really, it doesn't change the quality of an Android-based phone compared to that of an iOS-based phone. Enough of trying to use that article to make one look better than the other. Apple have had their fair share of "security issues" and will continue to.

Once you start using apps, you're not using it as a phone, you're using it as a quasi-computer and as such, the landscape changes.

Stop bickering about semantics.

if they need it for tax purposes then why doesn't apple do it then? It is a massive security flaw with android and it does change the "quality" of a andoird phone. If google decides not do anything about it what does that mean for google? Yes apple have had security issues but apple are always pretty quick to act on it. It's not about someone somewhere having your details, it's about a company that people are putting trust in really working in a dodgy way. how many came apps or malware apps have people paid for, would you want to have downloaded a malware app then to find your details where passed onto that made the app. Stop kidding yourself by thinking this is not a issue it's a major issue and the one reason while i'll never get a android phone
