nintendo handheld consoles: (3)DS(i) (XL)

Goodpeople

Looking for a handheld gaming console for an under-10 girl. Am considering something from the Nintendo DS range. Anyone got any experience with any of these? Is XL worth getting over standard size, is the 3D model worth it? Recommend any good games for young girls? etc?

TIA.

My eldest (9) has had the DSi for a couple of years and seems to do the job quite well.

She loves the cooking games where u have to do pointless stuff like making cakes and shit. Also likes the pet games where you have to walk, feed, groom the dogs etc.

Keeps em entertained and off my xbox ;-)

Anything recent is good, with the right games.
Agree with Mickey - my daughter loves the games where, for some reason, she makes slushies, over-decorated wedding cakes, or donuts. And pets - they love playing with pets.

I have a DS that she loves, but usually the iPad gets a massive workout.
I love 'Food and Stuff'. It's where I buy all of my food. And most of my stuff.

the amount of games you are better going the 3ds as it still plays ds games. Both can take pictures and kids love that stuff. I enjoy the 3ds and the range of games is getting better but I can still play the ds games I already own.

Is the PS Vita getting a look in? I know its more of a teen/adult hand held console, and a bit more pricey.

Having said that, Im thinking about getting a DS. My 10 year old brother has one and the games are pretty cool.

Vita very good console games range VFO. Not too many which sucks for this game. The fact that more are there to download for it is good but sometimes it can be pricey. I enjoy playing mine but Sony is not doing enough with it
