Iphone5 replacement screen

Postby Groover » Fri May 10, 2013 6:37 pm

Just cracked the screen on my IP5, I have insurance with Telstra, but the excess to get my phone fixed is $250 (and it takes 5 working days to repair)
So i'll use that as my last resort.

My question is... does anyone on here know anywhere/anyone I can get it done cheaper?

DigiMob, maybe. One of my staff repaired his iPhone 4 screen for under $100 the other week.

Are iPhones fragile?
I've had a series of mobile phones since the early 1990s - starting with a half-brick size one - and never had to have one repaired.
I did have a Motorola at one time with dodgy battery contacts (a design flaw) but I just prised them back up occasionally.

I've dropped my current Samsung touch screen one a few times, but it hasn't suffered any harm.

What are I-Phone screens made of? Glass? They can't be plastic can they?

from memory it's a type of glass that is used. Mainly the screen will crack when it hits the corners. pretty much a problem with any smart phone these days.

I drop my Galaxy S all the time. Had it for over 2 years and its fine. I have cracked my missus's S2, but I had to shut the boot on it for that to happen, and its only a small localised crack where the metal hit the screen. The rest of its intact.

Not trying to start another Apple Vs Android/Samsung war here, but I am lead to believe that Iphone screens are not as durable as the others.

I was lead to believe the same. But after looking around on google the s3 in particular seems to have the same issue. I've cracked 2 out of the 4 iphones i've had, but i've dropped my phone many times. Especially with the iphone it seems as the corners are weak points. Both times I cracked a iphone it landed on the corner, and the other I have dropped it have far bigger drops then when it cracked. But i've always had insurance on my phone and both times i've dealt with optus with insurance they have been pretty good.

I've seen as many smashed of each. A cover makes a massive difference to how well the phone survives a drop.

Exactly
Surprises me how many people have "covers" that do nothing more than make the phone break 2mm earlier

If Iphones were gorilla glass they wouldnt break ;) My nokia had gorilla glass - dropped it quite a few times and not so much as a scratch. Samsungs have gorilla glass.

I cant seriously think of one person I know that owns one and that hasn't smashed their Iphone.

The above is the probably the main reason I'd never get one.

what you think is the screen cracking when it show through the ipgone camera, is actually a overhead powerline. If you keep hitting the play button you will be able to pause it and see.

this is the iphone 5 vs the s3. the last drop really isn't a fair test as it looks as he puts more into dropping the s3 then the iphone 5.
