from memory it's a type of glass that is used. Mainly the screen will crack when it hits the corners. pretty much a problem with any smart phone these days.

I drop my Galaxy S all the time. Had it for over 2 years and its fine. I have cracked my missus's S2, but I had to shut the boot on it for that to happen, and its only a small localised crack where the metal hit the screen. The rest of its intact.
Not trying to start another Apple Vs Android/Samsung war here, but I am lead to believe that Iphone screens are not as durable as the others.

I cant seriously think of one person I know that owns one and that hasn't smashed their Iphone.
The above is the probably the main reason I'd never get one.
