Windows 10 upgrade fail

Postby RustyCage » Tue Sep 01, 2015 8:59 am

Upgraded to Windows 10 on my mums laptop after doing so successfully on a couple of other laptops and a PC, and after the update was complete the desktop screen will load, but flashes on and off and I can't click on anything.

Any ideas on how to fix?

Some devices have not updated their machines drivers to be able to take Windows 10 check with the makers website for that model.

Most of the reported fails appear to have been upgrades from Windows 7, and unavailable drivers for the components appear to be the main issue.

I've updated my two windows 8 machines without a hitch (and two belonging to the Arts Theatre) but I've left my W 7 pro desktop as is, partly because of the driver potential issue (despite the W10 app saying it is compatible), and partly because W7 will still run certain old XP software I won't to retain while W10 definitely won't.

My little laptop upgraded ok but it sucks becuase it uses microsoft edge as the browser which doesn't support java so i can't play my Pogo games :?

Then I go to install explorer and it says i've already got it installed but can't find it, this may or may not be because i'm a techo dummy.

NEVER use Explorer. I think its extinct anyway. Use Firefox or Chrome. All your penguin games will work.

The Mrs upgraded and everythings working the same as far as I can tell.

Internet explorer is only included in Windows 10 for enterprise compatibility reasons, so you wont see it, but if you were in a large business they could roll it out to their machines if they wanted.

As HH3 said, go with Chrome or Firefox, both are great.

With regards to W10 in general, i really really like it. The best windows since XP thats for sure (though i liked 7 as well)

Chrome uses a lot of the same backend* settings as IE...

Firefox is your friend...

Or if you're playing old school games you could always try Netscape ;)
