But im looking to upgrade my current laptop and are there any notable bugs in this new OS that I should wait to be ironed out before rushing out and buying a new computer?

Buy Vista for its exorbitant price, then spend a fortune upgrading your computer so it will run at all. Alternatively save money by moving to Linux, which works even on old machines. I am sticking with XP Pro for situations where I HAVE to use a Micro$oft OS to use certain commercial software, and Ubuntu everywhere else, including the 64 bit version on an AMD 64 3200+.

The Opera and Firefox browsers work on both and the free "Open Office" office suite does too.

And it is absolutely free! I have never owned M$ Office. I did have the 1997 version of M$ Works, which I used until 2002.

I have it set to save text documents in Microsoft style .doc format for ease of interchange with people who only have the M$ product, but it will save as .pdf or .rtf and many other formats, and you can open a document in one format then save a copy in another. It probably doesn't have all the bells and whistles but it has all you really need and is great value at the price. I have seen it in use in business premises.

The hardware requirements aren't as bad as I initially think.

But the software compatibility list really gets me down.
