IT Course

Postby LBJ8 » Sat Feb 03, 2007 5:35 pm

Just wondering if you guys could help me out, i'm interested in doing an IT course in Web Design/Development, and also an MCSA course. Do you guys know of any good places that do those courses?? I don't have that much experience and at the moment i would just like to do it out of interest and maybe it could turn into a career change. I've looked into places like Excom and they are bloody expensive and TAFE courses take up to much time, cos i work full time. I know IT courses aren't cheap but thought one of you guys may know of somewhere? Any help would be appreciated...

all I know, is that there are a lot of un-employed IT people out there. We have a guy who went to Uni & has Uni Qualifications at our work, doing manual labour- his HECS debt is also having to be paid off (I 'm guessing) while he's doing this work.
Don't let me put you off though, but just checj whether the market is flooded before spending coin.

Cheers, yeah i guess that how excom can get away with charging $12,000-$22,000 on there training courses cos they guarantee a job at the end of it. I've heard that the job at the end of it's not that good anyway, but yeah cheers for the reply. The more info before i make a decision the better...

Its easy to get an IT job if you're willing to start out in the Government. Min wage would be about $53k.
They're looking for IT grads all the time and Centrelink are opening up a national IT Centre in Adelaide in the next month or two.
Jobs already advertised (and gone past expiry date) for that one but there will be a few other sections in Centrelink looking for more people when the IT centre steals some away.
The section I work in would fall over themselves for a Programmer (Application Developer) at the moment.

Nah, must admit Ive never looked into an IT course too seriously as Ive self taught myself everything I need to know.
The place I just won a job in might have some people with an idea, just to show the lack of talent out there they were after a few people but I was the only person deemed suitable.

Sorry for not getting back to you early LBJ but most that have done courses recommend only the proper uni course.
You'd probably also want to work out early on in the piece which part of IT you want to get into as there's heaps of different jobs these days.
for eg
Web Designer
Applications Development (Programmer)
Business Analyst
Systems Analyst
Project Management
Systems Tester

Ive been a BA and a Systems Tester, BA is a bit more interesting but Testing is really taking off and depending on what sort of job you want/get it could range from being tedious to being interesting.

Fully self taught there mate so can't help you with courses. I read a few books early on, found that the best way to learn as well as searching around the net.
If you want to create websites you can't go past Dreamweaver as far as programs go IMHO.
