Getting back to the theme of this thread...

What about some of the other Norwood players and what we can expect of them in 2007? I can't get to many games (I am normally watching one of the country leagues) but follow the 'Legs, and would appreciate some feedback.

Obviously all speculative at this stage Max as we still haven't finalised who will remain for 2007, how the recruits will settle in, how much we will see of AFL listed players etc, how injuries will affect us etc.

As supporters of all clubs should be at this stage, there is plenty of optimism mainly centred around the potential improvement of a young but talented list ... Can they continue on the progress they have already made in the last 2 or 3 seasons?

I think the time has come that Norwood must show significant improvement in 2007, and for mine significant would need to include regular victories over the competition heavyweights, handing out a shellacking or two to a struggling opposition and/or playing finals footy ... If these objectives aren't met I think the club would need to take a serious look at (and perhaps make some tough decisions on) both their playing and coaching personnel, as for mine 2006 was disappointing after the spirit that had been shown late 2005.

They have steadily improved since the darkness of 2004, but must be able to make that next step to becoming a finalist now IMHO or risk becoming content with mediocrity.

As CD would say - "Personal Thoughts Only".

When we get out POKIES in + making $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
we might expect some improvement.
Everything else pales into insignificance.

Does that mean you don't rate the recruits for 2007 or the current list Norwood have? IMO the only 2 teams that have improved their lists to any great degree so far in the off season are Centrals and North. Port have to a lesser degree improved or at least broken even given they lost so many "big names" from last year so they may be around the mark.

None of the others IMO have picked up more than the odd "likely" star but then how do you factor in unknowns that might emerge? I think the key is getting big strong KPP and I can't see that teams like Norwood, Sturt, Glenelg and West have got the required ones and have a reliance on having AFL listed KPP players "bogging" up their deficiencies (as North has in the past) but as we all know time will tell who has or has not improved their list based on good management and lots of luck?

Granted that should assist with improvement MAL, but I think too many people associated with the club have rested their laurels upon that line

I think it could be another fairly dissapointing year for Norwood. We were well short of playing finals football last year and I don't beleive we have recruited enough to really get up there. If anything I suspect we may fall back a place.

What's the future for young Gags, Thomas, and Jackman? Jackman, in particular, seemed to blossom away from the salary cap mob...

The futures are bright for all 3 ... Jackman was exceptional in his debut season and is a quality player, there are some fears out there that he may be lost to football prematurely to follow his chosen profession (dentistry I think) sometime in the near future.

Gags responded as a leader/club man should last year and dug deep after we hit rock bottom toward the middle stages of last season ... Is a classy player on his day, and Red and Blue blooded.

Matty Thomas is already an excellent footballer, and one which I'd imagine will receive little SANFL playing time over the next x-many seasons.

Thats the one mate, relishes the contested ball, exciting to watch .. Power saw him as a potential future Michael Wilson, big shoes to fill but he's started off in that direction.
