Gillard for PM?

Labor, Liberal, Greens, Democrats? Here's the place to discuss.

I don't vote Labor, but the Libs are having one of the best free runs in an election campaign seen for a long time. No real scrutiny by the main stream (commercial) media that I can see at all.
But it's only a game anyway mate ;)

My favourite sport. ;)

Charisma is the big loser in this election.

Never seen two more bland and uninspiring campaigners.

And we've got another monotone month ahead.

It's terrible really. A bunch of hollow, on-the-run policies with neither party giving much substance lest they over-commit themselves to scrutiny.

its been awhile since there has been a leader with Charisma or any resemblance of a personality. Maybe Keating was the last one ? although Abbott does have some very funny moments.

what did people think of Abbott on Hey Hey Its Saturday last night. I thought he did fairly well, he probably gained more votes especially being on with Kylie.

Sounds like he had a tough time and the appearance didn't really do him any favours.

Thought these comments summed it up really :

Want to express my concern at the banal reporting shown in this election campaign. Even as someone who has voted Labor at past elections I have to say Tony Abbott is not getting a fair go. The Aussie media are crucifying Tony Abbott to the extent it becomes very difficult for people to make an informed decision on character and policy. This morning's story in The Age from Hey Hey TV show last night was over the top bordering on ridicule and derision. Sure he received a few boos but probably so would have Julia Gillard if she had chosen to come on! I thought Tony did ok - the picture and article was scathing. This is a serious nation with serious challenges and a serious future. Can we please have more depth of analysis for the good of our nation and a fair go for both sides. Reducing Tony Abbott to a budgie smuggling laughing stock is unfair and such banality is to the peril of our nation. Even if the journos don't like Tony can we please get some depth and fairness. After all Labor has produced some of the most monumental stuff-ups of modern times that just get swept under the carpet. I have young children and want them to enjoy a prosperous future. That's why I want fair reporting that helps people make well-informed opinions. Whether that leads to a Labor or Liberal government that's finel!

It's been "budgie-smuggler vs ranga Kath" for a good couple of weeks. Both have been the butt of jokes.

I don't know what media outlets you have been scouring, but both parties are copping a pasting at the moment because of their lack of vision.

It's an interesting issue that Liberal supporters seem to think it adds something to their argument to claim that they've usually/always voted Labor.

What follows is almost always a condemnation of labor :?

It could be genuine disillusionment, of course! ;)
It was for me in 1975, but I'd only ever voted Labor in 1972 and 1974, so I wasn't totally embittered, by feeling let down, just left distrustful.
Before that I tended to select issue driven independents I favoured, and give my preference to the Liberals after them.

Although the distrust for Labor born in 1974-5 has tended to last, I didn't take the step of joining the Liberal Party until 1995, after the Keating experience added to my distrust of Labor.
I thought of voting Labor again a few years ago, when irritated by John Howard, but then Mark Latham got the nod from the factions, and my distrust flared up once more.
This year I'm having a bit of trouble persuading myself I want to vote at all - I prefer what Julia is saying overall, but I'm not sure it is what we are going to get.
EPIGENETICS - Lamarck was right!

As far as I can tell at the moment, the best proposed policy has come from the Greens (student welfare), but I can see how it would be easily missed amongst some of their other wacky proposals.

Thankfully, Gruen is going all political for the next month.

Looking back at the best and worst of political campaigns over the years.

Singo's 1993 campaign was a personal favourite.

You want laughs southee, did you just see Joe Hockey's performance on the 7.30 Report? The former minister for WorkChoices was still being beaten around the head with their own policy and then near the end said Labor hadn't delivered a budget suplus since 1989! Swan delivered a surplus of more than $23 Billion right before the GFC struck (which of course never happened in Liberal Party land).

Sloppy Joe is truly an imbecile.

No mate, missed it. Try not to look at the media at the moment with their pre - Labour spin on things at present.
Some unbiased reporting would not hurt for once :?

The Australian are doing are good job of some unbiased reporting

This is probably my first ever post in the politics forum and I hope not to make a habit.

Now lets get one thing straight. I hate politics - with a passion.

I think the money spent on elections are a complete and utter waste of time and this millions of $$ could be spent in many other areas, not filling my mailbox full of crap and constant ads which bag the opposition and are full of empty promises.

But there is something I've noticed about this election.

I believe Laurie Oaks has BIG issues with Julia Gillard and is finding any which way he can to "out" her as the bad person. Either he must have been great mates with Kevin 07, or he's a big liberal man. He's gone so far as to spend a week on a story to expose Gillard as an "old person hater" as she opposed rises in pensions becuase old people don't vote labor.

I don't care how many bloody years experience he has as a journo. His job is to commentate the election in a fair and unbiased manner and I don't believe he's doing this. Makes the job for people like me even harder to choose who to vote for.

My $0.02 - from an average joe who will quite happily admit to voting for Malcolm Blight in the 1997 election (or 98, whenever it was)

2 points FC:

1. Why wasn't you 10,000th post, a debut post in here then?
2. Apparently Kevin Rudd was Laurie Oakes' cleaner way back when. Seriously.

Yep I hate elections too, because sometimes the Labor party gets in ;) but I would rather have all the crap and "waste" rather than live in North Korea, Iran or Cuba where they sensibly don't waste money on such things

And Tony Abbott wanted to be a priest. I like to think they might have both grown up a little since their uni days.
