Interesting game between Elizabeth and Trinity on Saturday.
Good way to start a local rivalry, although the game never reached any great heights.
I thought the contest between Pete Dempsey and Trinity's CHB (number 50) was integral to the contest - points shared in that one.
At times, Trinity looked a much better drilled outfit than Elizabeth which in the end, I think, willed itself to a victory.
A crucial win for the Eags, given the log jam in the middle of the ladder.

Must say though, the grey haired umpire was terrible. For a game that never reached any level of malevolence at all, I have never seen so many FADs and 25/50 metre penalties given in my life. He made soft decisions and continually pushed his way into the decision making, leaving his mate out in the cold. We attributed about 10 goals between the two sides that were made that much simpler or resulted from his direct impact on the game.

The Elizabeth v Trinity game was lacklustre at best, with Trinity seemingly having most of the play, but butchering the ball all over the ground, which cost them in the end.. Elizabeth really just got over the line through grit and determination..

Tend to agree on the umpiring, wasnt too bad for the first 3 quarters, a few head scratching decisions but thats footy.. In the last, well they decided to get a bit more involved, and made some horrid calls. They started calling holding the ball, ticky touch high and in the back calls, all the while missing the decisions they were paying in the first 3 quarters. I understand the frustration from both sides because the consistency was just no where to be seen..

We haven't been good enough for long enough and haven't play 4 quarters of footy simple as that. We've had slow starts, gone to sleep late in quarters and it's cost us big time. Our losses to Fitzroy, Adelaide Lutheran and Woodville South were all very winable games, we matched it with all 3 sides and played some awesome, unstoppable footy in parts just haven't played 4 quarters of footy. Even against the best side in the Div in Kenilworth it was 11 goals to 12 after quarter time. We've certainly been around the mark and certainly have the talent, our team on paper has looked pretty strong each week it's just a workrate/mental/consistant issue. Both Thorno and Lippo, who have been really good for us so far have noticed this and it's something we're really trying to improve because if we're going to win games consistantly and match it with the better sides we obviously need to play 4 quarters of footy.

The last 2 weeks have been really disappointing, we really need to bounce back and beat Para Hills this Saturday and get to 4 and 4.

Yep the 2's are flying, playing some great footy and keep finding ways to win, they've obviously been very consistant. The majority of the B grade had really good preseasons and I think that's a major reason to their early season success. Most of their games have been pretty even at half time and they're continually running out games well which their opposition has had no answer to.

Which, in itself, is a good sign.

Hmm, this sounds alot like the umpire we had against Trinity in round 3 and a few times over the past seasons. Umpires haven't been too bad this year I reckon, except for him. Do you know who he is DW?

Sorry, mate. I have no idea what his name was.
This isn't a one-sided rant from me either. I usually try to avoid umpire 'blaming' but this bloke impacted on both sides.

Been out to watch a couple of games this year and the umpires have well and truly spoiled both contests. It's a shame but it's been going on for years.

Would like to publicly thank deeman and others for being such <no personal attacks please> on here a couple of weeks ago and making our player group closer. We all have an extra reason to fight now. Bangers has responded well to plenty of criticism on here in the best possible way, by being a part of two huge wins for Para Hills and the start of we hope is the turning point of our season. Its easy to see around the club that he is backed in as coach and will be for some time.

We are not getting ahead of ourselves though and look forward to the game this weekend against TDK and his mob!

Well, I've just looked up umpire appointments and found that one of the blokes that umpired Elizabeth v Trinity on Saturday umpired our game against Trinity in round 3. The other umpire we had in that match was a small bald bloke who wore a hat. He was a pretty quiet guy who had a measured approached to his umpiring, I don't really remember anyone having a go at him but the other umpire is an umpire you don't forget. So, I'm fairly confident we're talking about the same bloke, not 100% sure just yet though.

I'm not one to go on about the umpires alot and try to avoid it as I blame us for a loss but that bloke was bad. So glad we won that day after having to deal with the countless soft FAD's.

He was very ordinary for both teams on the weekend. Even the slightest opportunity for a soft free or an FAD, he took it. It just seemed that he was keen to be noticed as much as possible during the game. Very mouthy as well. It didn't really affect the outcome of the game. Just made it hard to get on with the game and play footy.

Exactly. I'm glad I wasn't alone in spotting this.
Of course, players need to be more disciplined when you learn the way in which certain umpires will make decisions. We failed in that department throughout the game.

Pretty impressed by the way Shreeve from Woodville South goes about his footy. Prob the most disciplined backman Ive played against in Div 5. How long has he been playing out there ?

Been with us for probably 3 years now. Had a short stint with us back when we were in Div 2 also. Very handy footballer who rarely gets beaten.
