Are the SANFL being up-front?

Postby Mark_Beswick » Sat Oct 12, 2013 6:11 pm

I had it from a 3rd source yesterday that

1. PAFC will have thier AFL side, SANFL League (Reserves) side AND have some commissioners backing them for a Reserves side in the SANFL Reserves
2. The same model for the crows being discussed.

How the @#$ will either AFC or PAFC get

1. top-up players for BOTH SANFL League AND Sanfl RESERVES when they have no zones

Make plenty of noise people with your SANFL clubs, CEO's and directors.... This time we can vote people in or out at the AGM's each club has from now until next march.

Hopefully they realise it will be better to have a side under the SANFL sides for both teams. Eliminates the potential farcical situation of a player playing a quarter only at SANFL level for match fitness or a rookie listed dutch handballer playing way out of his depth because there is no where else to go.

Much more important question is, how the @#$ are the Corporation (the me too's) pushing to copy Port Adelaide's developmental football structure that they never wanted in the first place?

This isn't a matter of some whispered conspiracy involving "some commissioners". This is the official deal for the Power running teams in the SANFL competition, in particular under this heading:

Academy team
• Port Adelaide Magpies to have an academy team in the SANFL reserves competition.
• Such players receive a maximum of $100 per match at reserves level.

The use of the phrase 'Academy team' is a strange and probably inaccurate euphemism (at this stage, I doubt whether there will be any 'academy' worthy of the name, not least because the AFL wouldn't allow it), but the effect is pretty clear. And yes, the question of where the **** they will get players to play SANFL reserves in 2015, when they have no juniors (and only a very limited pool of contracted SANFL players), is a very live question.

Logically, if they don't just dump the SANFL reserves competition when they realise the problems they've signed up for, they'll get hold of players by getting the SANFL to change the rules in some way. Allowing them free or near-free access to SANFL teams' overaged ex-U/18 players who haven't been added to the senior group, is just one of what will doubtless be a long list of awesome ideas that could help 'em out.

If the Crows decide they want to field a team in the SANFL reserves comp (and we already know that what they want, they get)... <shudder>.

I don't think anyone should be surprised about what happens from here on. Now that both AFL teams are in the competition, efforts will be made to ensure that those teams are balanced, competitive and given a priority over the other 8 clubs on just about anything.

The league is now about ensuring those two AFL clubs have successful SANFL (or AFLSA) teams. The league directors who voted this in will have no option but to support any proposals to strengthen them, expand their base etc, as to do otherwise would be admitting a wrongdoing.

As the honourable Reverand Lovejoy would say... "its all over people!!!".

As much as I will hate to admit it, it is true. The feeling is bad. It will eat away for a long time. To now know that eveyone's efforts who opposed this was worthless is disheartening. It's all over :(
