Love how some supporters decide what a real supporter must do and those who disagree should be "ashamed". How about we let everyone decide how they support their teams and we just enjoy supporting ours in our own way?

How can you say you " support " your team when you only attend a GF ? That is not support that is bandwagoning.

It's just basic maths that when you've got probably about 10,000 average, 15,000 max going to the SANFL on any given weekend, for a fair proportion of any 36,000 crowd it's going to be their only game (or near to their only game) for the year. A crowd of 'pure' SANFL supporters who go most weeks would be certainly sub-20k, which for a GF wouldn't be a good thing.

Good on 'em for coming, and let's hope they got a bit hooked on going to the SANFL (rather than some other league or code).

So if a person is a member, but happens to play football, usually at the same time as the SANFL play, can only attend the finals or GF then they're not a real supporter?

Does the bandwagon hitch on to the back of the plane, like a trailer?

What absolute crap. This coming from someone who never grasped Port Adelaide's SANFL/AFL connection and just follows colours around, your support is the one that won't be missed

You want the showcase game for the SANFL to be played in front of 3000 people? Make it season ticket holders only? No neutrals allowed to turn up?

How do you think regular support is built? There'd be North and Norwood supported there, like the ones you don't want to turn up, who that was their only game for the year, who would have enjoyed the day and would get out to a game it two during the season. Believe it or not, these people are just as important to the comp as the weekly attendees.

Just to Clarify:

The phrase "jump on the bandwagon" first appeared in American politics in 1848 when Dan Rice, a famous and popular circus clown of the time, used his bandwagon and its music to gain attention for his political campaign appearances. As his campaign became more successful, other politicians strove for a seat on the bandwagon, hoping to be associated with his success.

At least no ones accused any Port supporters of jumping on the bandwagon for a bloody long time

Judging by the rise in crowds this year, that bandwagon's building up pace.

Fantastic effort by the club this year culminating in another premiership won. Took my old man into the change rooms afterwards and soaked up the atmosphere with the players. Took a photo of Dad with Mitch Grigg and the trophy, something we wont forget in a long time. Full credit also to North Adelaide for a stirring fight back in the third quarter, certainly earned respect from many Norwood supporters around us. Looking forward to next year already, I don't believe the negativity surrounding the SANFL competition is as bad as some would have you believe. Go you Redlegs!

Bandwagon jumping has been happening for all clubs through all competitions since Jesus played for Jerusalem. The fact that many people are either working playing , volunteering , following their AFL,local Footy ,Netball ,Hockey, Soccer clubs .
They come out on Grand final day Because
A. its after their commitments are finished
B. its on a Sunday(no work for most)
C. AFL is finished
D To See their team win a premiership
E. they want to go.
What ever the reason I don't care if it keeps THE SANFL alive & people are still interested its a good thing.
LONG LIVE THE SANFL
& by the way
GO YOU LEGGEEEEEEEEEEEEES

Spot on Mickey.

Due to amateur committments, I probably get to about 6 power games and 1-2 magpies games a year. Unfortunately, whether it be from a playing or volunteer perspective- alot of people devote most of their time to their amateur club. Doesnt make them any less of a supporter.

Sunday was my first GF in years. Despite my hatred for the competing teams I really enjoyed the day. The crowd numbers would have been boosted by the fact sunday was the last official game at AAMI- generating large neutral interest.

You wouldn't have a clue what myself or my family has done for the club. How dare you say I "just follow colours around".
