Yes the season is starting a week earlier next year due to the NAB cup being axed.
I think the MCG and GABBA are ruled out until the last week in March every year. Adelaide will be the same id imagine

Sounding like its Geelong v Adelaide at the Cattery in Round 1, most of Geelong's home games will be night fixtures

Apparently Crows get Hawks in R3 as Adelaides 1st home game at Adelaide oval to continue the tradition of all the 1st's between the two clubs.
So Geelong, Port, Hawks, guess their draw gets easier after that lol
Also the 2nd showdown will be in R9

They only play Geelong and the Hawks once though. Get them both out the way early with the Hawks still in hangover mode. Should be a fairly soft draw after that

I reckon there'd be a Western Derby like there was in Round 1 this year.

Which leaves Collingwood, Melbourne, St Kilda and the Bulldogs.

Looks like a pretty underwhelming Round 1 to me. Split rounds blow, especially in Round 1. Who needs a friggin break in March?

having a split round for round 1 is anti-climactic IMO.

I don't want to ease into the footy season, I want it to smash me in the head and make me wake up to the realisation it's footy season again.

I'm ok with a split round to start off with, if the alternative is a full round starting the following week.

If GWS is playing againt the Swans round 1, then I suspect the intent is to try and give the game as much publicity/focus as possible.
