One of the major reasons why the SF49ers went to the playoffs every year during their great run was that the NFC West was so bad with Atlanta, New Orleans & the LA Rams always having sub -par .500 season 6 easy wins guarnteed straight away.

Yes they did play in a weak division but players like Montana, Rice, Lott, Craig, etc they would of still won any other division end of story.

Might not have won as many division titles if they played in the AFC West, NFC North & East as they would have had to play those teams twice a year. Maybe a few wild card games on the road instead of first round byes!!!
