Selfless by Watson!
Can't criticise him. No doubt Aussies want the game moving and score quickly.
Didn't want extra pressure on Clarke and as a number 6 after a good it's a must to come in and score quick.
A quick fire 40 from the number 6 in this position, you would take that every day of the week.
Once again, people judge Watson unfairly when not warranted.

live by the sword, die by it

those are exactly the sorts of innings that are not good enough at number 3, but can be invaluable at 6, especially if it allows him to bowl more

Duminy is bowling absolute pies with everyone on the fence, could safely go at a minimum of 6 an over maybe more risk free. Go at 6 an over for an hour and we would be 550+. By getting out he has slowed the run rate.

Lucky the Smith had men on the fence, or Watson would still be there.

Watson isn't the smartest cricketer getting around and it ended up an ordinary shot

But I wouldn't take to much into that innings.

For him to bat like that he obviously had a license to swing and at the end of the day if he averages 40 at 6 plus his his bowling he will be close to the best all rounder in cricket atm

Don't forget Smith's second ball he faced this innings.

Smith......................

No problem with Smith having a couple on the fence, but 6 is ridiculous, no need for a deep point and deep extra cover. Watson was always going to hit straight or cow corner

Johnson very unlucky there. Once again he may have hit it but didnt appear snicko and hotspot agreed yet still overrided

I would be interested to see if there is actually a rule where snicko overrides hot spot and umpires deciscion

there was definitely a very small hotspot, showed up more on the second angle they showed. snicko was loud as though, easily enough info to give it out

1/73 [22]
0/38[13]
3/63[17]
1/46[15]
0/94 [23.5]

90.5 overs
4 wickets
314 runs
78.5 average

A few commentators have mentioned in this series just how fast and well he is bowling
I would think Morkel would be disappointed with his figures so far this series
