1. Greg Phillips has officially resigned as head coach of Kilburn
2. The club has already identified possible candidates and are confident of finding a suitable replacement by early next week at the latest.
3. Kilburn will remain in D3 this season, although the possibility of a bye in D3R is still a distinct possibility, however the club is still hopefully of 2 sides and will know more in the coming days/week.
4. The club has in the vicinity of 35-40 players signed.

Good day, and happy Friday everyone, enjoy the long weekend :)

Good news and Good Post!

Is not fielding a reserves side a bit fraught with danger though?

Spoke to an old cricket team mate of mine who's plays at Kilburn now and he confirmed point 3. He also mentioned that the club is still able to entice players to the Chics as the club's finances are still in a good place, although this is the reason they are in their current predicament.
They won't be getting anyone decent in mid-March I wouldn't have thought, surely they should save the dosh and concentrate on getting numbers for two sides and not worrying about the quality.

It would be more dangerous for the club to drop down to C grade divisions, that would effectively kill the club IMO, at least by remaining in Div 3, and if it means dropping down the grades over the coming years, they still have something they can promote the club on and look to build the player base up.

P.G i know you say that 35-40 players you have for current season on the books my concern if i was a kilburn member or player etc would be that while the lack of numbers at trainning 12-18 at best is it safe to say the other 27 or so players are not A grade standard or of an age where there safety would be a concern considering its div 3

and yes a few clubs are speaking to a few kilburn players as of last night and tonight

maybe the board needs to sit down and think this one through if kilburn start getting pumped by 20 plus goals a week how many will stick around ??

With Matt Whelan bailing out on Brahma Lodge, and Phillips on Kilburn it questions if some coaches are their for the right reasons. Facing such an exodus of players no doubt was the deciding factor as it appears they (the coaches) weren't prepared to undertake the challenge of building a team from the ground up. In their case it seems clear it is not what they signed on for in the first instance.

It does suggest that football no matter what level, highlights (IMO) that loyalty and duty for many "guns for hire" is unto themselves and not a Club. As pointed out in many posts if its money path a Club elects to take to achieve success, then you have to cop the consequences that follow.

Props to Kilburn on point 3. Suri for facing up to what will be a tough season in Div 3 and if Brahma Lodge had opted to stay up it may have been a useful learning curve for them.

apparently I need to clarify this.

steamboat isn't poaching anyone. he's far too respectable and lovely person to do anything like that as are most others down at Portland.

I think this is where the real difference lies, when we were being pumped by 40+ goals about 8-9 years ago, we still had a core group of 17-19 year olds who loved playing for the club and each other, A majority of those guys played in both our flags last year, this will be the difference in a sustainable and non sustainable side
I'm kind of a big deal, people know me

In terms of sticking around there is a bigger possibility of those players who will now be expected to play for the Guernsey and Club are more likely to leave if they suddenly feel undervalued if Kilburn ignores history with a quick fix and tries to "buy" it's way out of trouble again. I said before they are facing a tough season but for those players who stick it out in a tough season is where the Club coaches should be building from....those who leave because of a 20 goal thumping would IMO contribute little to the Club's future.

If they dropped their Bs why would the fringe players hang around and hope they get a game some week.
I'd say dropping the Bs would have a negative effect on going.
Tough calls coming up.

If Kilburn dropped to only 1 side I seriously doubt that the league would let them stay in D3 and create a D3R bye the same with Brahama Lodge in D4.
At that level you can't have a bye in your 3rd or 4th ranked division. Hard decisions to be made in the next week.
I would like it known that I am not having a go at any club here just stating what I believe will happen if both clubs can only field A Grade sides.
