I think this game highlights how important Botha has been to the Redbacks this season. His attacking captaincy, handy runs but most importantly ability to bowl long economical spells, tie down the opposition and produce wickets.

So someone was telling me - and dont know how accurate it is - that Botha was whinging to the umpires about the state of the ball and wanted it changed, when the umpires continually ignored him, he deliberately and in the view of the umpire, grabbed the ball and scuffed it on his spikes then threw it to the umpire and informed him that now they need to change balls...

I would say arrogant prick who put himself before the team because he didnt get his own way and as result is suspended for the most important game of the year against a side that aren't going to factor in the final.

The point i'm getting at - if true - is that it wasn't that he was trying to cheat by getting an unnatural response from the ball like ball tampering is generally associated with, it's that obviously he felt the ball was no good and the umpires refused to look at it or change it which he clearly thought was to the detriment of his team and their chances, so he forced the issue and pretty much gave them no choice.

F**k em (umpires) lol!

Such an important game v NSW, had we snagged either innings as we were so close to, this game v TAS would be irrelevant and Botha would be back for the final.

Think you will find 80 overs had been bowled and he had called for a new one anyway. Umpires hadn't officially signalled new ball was in play.

Botha decided to clean his spikes with the old ball

Travis Head
This season

33-22
51-92
98
98-43
4-12
13-0

42.36 average

The question has to be asked
Why was Travis Head dropped from this team ?
Is this the way to treat a 20 year old ?

Head scored 51 + 92 in Perth against Mitchell Johnson
In the press he stated along the lines that MJ bowled well, and if he bowled like that against the Poms he would succeed

After the 3 nineties I was thinking , could this guy be a possible Test player ?
Now he cant make the team
At least 2 other guys who have been selected b4 him in this game should consider themselves fortunate

Yep, fairly certain he would be a walk up start for any other side in the comp. Disgraceful treatment of him

Ferg (not including BBL)
110, 21* v VIC
80, 45* v NSW
16, 112* (Futures)
19, 70* v QLD
6 v VIC
97, 59 v NSW

What golden ticket you think he's got this season!?

Head is a great young talent, and had a great start to the season but he still has a lot to learn and improve. End of the day he has still played 22 matches and batted 41 times for 9x 50's and an average of 29.10.

If anyone else held those sorts of numbers you would rip shreds off them.

True
Heads non selection cannot be used as an excuse in this match

But I'm a great believer in an adage of
*You make your own luck*
When Head was in the team SA was winning
Since he was dropped , SA points scoring has all but dried up

Head takes the game on
His 3 digs of almost 100 sets teams up

His form this season did not warrant non selection at the tail end of the season

Not this season

But in his first 5 years or so the golden child could do no wrong even though he couldn't hit the ball of the wicket.

Yet other blokes who were getting runs and still are in the comp were being dropped for trivial reasons

Head has shown alot more than Ferg did early doors yet is still getting dropped averaging 40 odd, I think this would be the first season ferg has ever averaged 40
