The right call was made to drop head. As a young lad he will come back. You guys are just looking for excuses now, given most of you wanted raph to stay in the side too.

Interesting question will he whether McDonald plays on next year, because tbh it upsets our balance too much trying to play both him and Botha in the same side.

What golden ticket you think he's got this season!?

Not this season

But in his first 5 years or so the golden child could do no wrong even though he couldn't hit the ball of the wicket.

Yet other blokes who were getting runs and still are in the comp were being dropped for trivial reasons

Head has shown alot more than Ferg did early doors yet is still getting dropped averaging 40 odd, I think this would be the first season ferg has ever averaged 40

He's averaged 37 in a team getting pounded. Paying them back now.

Did he pot your missus?

Dig deeper, in those seasons look into who was going to push Ferg out of the side or who deserved a spot ahead of him.

42.36 average

The question has to be asked
Why was Travis Head dropped from this team ?
Is this the way to treat a 20 year old ?

Head scored 51 + 92 in Perth against Mitchell Johnson
In the press he stated along the lines that MJ bowled well, and if he bowled like that against the Poms he would succeed

After the 3 nineties I was thinking , could this guy be a possible Test player ?
Now he cant make the team
At least 2 other guys who have been selected b4 him in this game should consider themselves fortunate

Unfortunately another northern suburbs boy who won't be given a golden ticket like our boy ferg

Maybe it will come back to bite us on the arse like the last two boys from the good have done!! ;)

Not sure why the cheap shot at Ferg. He was originally Prospect - so northern suburbs as well! They persisted and he is paying them back now with plenty of runs. I'm sure Cosgrove and Harris would have done the same had they been managed properly and the fact they are plying their trade elsewhere is now costing the Redbacks big time. This is not just a hindsight thing neither.

It is good that the likes of Sayers and Putland are making every post a winner, but there is still an element of leaning towards interstate recruits instead of backing our own. Klinger, Hughes, Botha and Ludeman have proven successful, but the rest haven't done any better than the locals would have.

It is disappointing they didn't back Head for the remainder of the season. Him and Smith are the next Cosgrove/Ferguson - Lehmann/Blewett coming through. Lets hope they back in Head and Smith as they have Ferguson (and not Cosgrove) as the rewards will come.

How many other state cricketers were persisted with for 8-9 years before they actually had a decent season lol

Debut in 2004/05 - Played all 10 matches, topped the runs with 733 at 38.57 (better than Blewett, Cosgrove)
2005/06 - Played all 10 matches, 4th in the runs with 506 at 36.14 (better than Blewett, Elliott)
2006/07 - Played 8 matches, 6th in the runs with 349 at 24.92 (Dropped for two games and fair enough too)
2007/08 - Played 8 matches, 2nd in the runs with 498 at 33.20 (Average season, but still came 2nd in the runs as clearly no one else was good enough...)
2008/09 - Played 9 matches, 4th in the runs with 644 at 42.93
2009/10 - Did not play - injured
2010/11 - Played 5 matches, 6th in the runs with 383 at 47.87
2011/12 - Played 8 matches, 3rd in the runs with 486 at 32.40
2012/13 - Played 9 matches, 2nd in the runs with 639 at 39.93
2013/14 - Played 7 games, 4th in the runs with 547 at 60.77

I'd say his first two seasons where pretty good for a debutant, then when his form slumped he was rightly dropped... Was always high on the aggregate lists and has performed pretty soundly over his career. Thoughts?

Paying them back now lol, go to work for the next 7 years and do stuff all, have one real good year and you have paid them back hehehe

That's my point he averages 38 in one season and gets a golden ticket for the next 7 seasons despite being less than average, while other blokes who were and still are hitting runs were getting dropped for trivial reasons

Head averages 40 plus even though we are going better there isn't much batting depth and gets dropped.

Not who was going to replace him , more what happened to other players around him who were performing better.

December 1906

NSW 558
Charlie The Governor Mcartney 122
Albert Hopkins 171

At 6/214 Hopkins came in to bat at number 8 and made the 171
That was the previous highest score made by a number 8 in SS cricket

For those who cant remember Charlie Mcartney
The Gov once made 100 in the first session of a Test match
