I wish...

I do have a few brews in the fridge though. It might be nice to crack into a few Mildura Brewery Honey Wheats, and some Coronas for good measure.

I'd say he's the best player of the last 25 years, hands down.

Senior was a genius, that's true. But Junior would have to be mentioned in the same breath, surely...

At the end of season 2009- Ablett Snr > Daylight > Ablett Jnr

2014- If GAJ wins a 3rd charlie, there is the smallest gap between them both.

If GAJ wins a 4th charlie (which I think he can), and happens to lead the suns to a flag, then his list of achievements (brownlows, AA, MVP's, best and fairests, premierships supersede that of his dads.

Gaz was a freak, and ive never seen forwards do what he did, but by the end of his career, I feel ill be saying "ive never seen a midfielder do what GAJ did".

Both absolute freaks and have been a pleasure to watch play the game.

I don't follow AFL much anymore - however, God had no premierships to his name, whilst junior does and can't recall Snr winning any brownlows.

I think Brownlows and premierships beat Colemans...

Statistically, wouldn't he already be a better player than his old man?

Plus the players of today are much more skilled overall...so Jnr would arguably be performing better, against better opposition.

That's the deciding factor for me, I believe Jnr is a more complete, more decorated player and therefore has surpassed his old man. The opponents that Snr would have stood throughout his career and the game plans and defensive processes along with the opposition analysis used would have nothing on todays opponents and systems, yet Jnr still flogs them all. Jnr is simply the outstanding player of the professional era without question.

And that begs the question- how much better (if at all) could have senior been in today's era?

It's not a great era to be a forward. I do wonder how these powerhouse forwards from the eighties and nineties would go today.

Ablett Snr was more talented IMO He was the Michael Jordan of footy the only footy player I've ever seen that could make the hairs stand up on the back of my neck like Jordan. Ablett Jnr might be a god but he's not the God ;)

I don't know if it's true but aside from his freakish talent I heard Ablett Snr used to win Geelong's weightlifting & speed tests each year too.

I think the Lockett / Ablett / Dunstalls of this world would still be super players, but unlikely to be 1000 career goal types. The game is a very different beast.

Dont think of how good Snr would be today, think how good Jnr would of been if he did what he does now, against the same players his dad played against. He'd kill everybody.

Yep, can't be too predictable when going forward these days.

I do miss watching a FF kick his hundredth goal for the season.

Jnr may well have missed games due to running into a shirtfront or 2. Something todays players dont have to worry about.

I think Junior was bloody good before he moved up north, and became an out-and-out champion up there, because he had to do it all himself initially. He didn't have a star midfield making his work easy, and he didn't have to lead a bunch of promising kids.
