Round 8 - North v Port - Post game

Postby Wedgie » Sat May 24, 2014 7:56 pm

Port 12.17 89
North 9.9 63

North's best effort of the year, very proud of our kids today.
For a semi - professional side to push a fully professional side like North did today was an awesome effort.

On crowds, today was by far and easily the worst Port crowd I've ever seen at a North v Port game in my life.
I'm guessing there was 2500 today at the most and 300 would have been Port supporters and even those 300 hardly cheered when they kicked goals.
Noone could ever tell me this is a good thing for the league, we used to get great crowds with Port Magpies fans there giving us heaps but virtually none there today.
There was absolutely no passion from the Port supporters today, absolute opposite of previous years.
I swear I saw more Hawthorn supporters there today, and as I said to them I hate Hawthorn but they had more interest in our grass roots footy and had a great day than Port supporters were inclined to do.

Today was almost as heart breaking to me as last year's GF as one side was playing for the guernsey and with heart where the other side was just more superior as far as pro coaching and fitness goes, Very disheartening.

Did Hocking let the Roosters grandstand know about the scoreboard?

The free kick count would suggest North were up for it today. Didn't listen on line as I was expecting a drubbing and couldn't bear to listen to it. Watched the SANFL app tick over and was surprised that North managed to stay with Port for so long.

Port were down to 1 on the bench fairly early and was wasteful in front of goal which made the scoreline more respectable than it might have been.

To win each quarter despite losing two players in the first 10 minutes was a great effort and showed the heart of our great footy club out there.

All class those North supporters - one got reported for racial abuse against Jake Neade.

Great Footy Club my arse. It's a reserves side full of AFL listed players for Christ sake. It just showed what the difference fitness levels are between the AFL full timers And the SANFL part-timers.

As for the racial abuse, sad and out of order if true. Unfortunately all clubs have an element of feral supporters, even one of your former clubs.

I was in two minds of selecting the "like" button there for a moment. But at the last second I detected just the tiniest hint of sarcasm so I decided not to.
Then I read it again and decided it isn't sarcasm at all, but jealousy that North fans at least still have an SANFL club to support for the time being. So I did press the "like" button after all. :D

Motlop was pretty good for a second week in a row but Clinchy was my best for North yesterday.

I don`t normally clap off a losing team but yesterday I did as I thought they tried their guts out but fell short. Thats all I ask.

I must have dreamt the cheery 'p**fter g**k c*unt' Sudjai Cook was getting called from the outer at Alberton a few years back.

Have noticed in recent weeks that when the AFL clubs have a poorer than expected crowd the numbers are never posted. It is the first time that I can recall a Prospect crowd was not given. I would think that there would have been a low 2K/high teen crowd as the stand side was nowhere near full and the outer except for the northern pockets was sparse.

The SANFL is heading the same way as the WAFL i have noticed over the last few years they show their crowd numbers as approx 1500 approx this approx that .

Looks like the SANFL might end up like the WAFL FAAARRRRKKKD !!!!!

You still come in here? ;)

Yes, sure, all clubs have poor performing fans and no club is exempt. North have their fare share though.
