X-Men: Days of Future Past

Bryan Singer may or may not be an epic pervert. But he is an epic blockbuster director. Some real director-porn in this.

No pun intended, but Michael Fassbender is the most magnetic actor today. Completely dominates every scene in every movie he's in.

Another big screen big win for Marvel...

Great review.
I work with an X Men nut and have had to listen to her rave about this for the past two weeks.
I gave her last Thursday off so she could go and watch it three times in a day.

I watched The Fighter the other night.
A really, really good boxing film. Right up there with Raging Bull, for mine.
I'm a big fan of boxing movies, especially the grittier ones, because I think it's remarkable what those guys can get in a ring and cop - I don't think I could do it.

Based on the story of Irish American Mickey Ward and his half brother Dicky Ecklund. Mark Wahlberg, playing a childhood hero, has the titular role, while Bale is outstanding as the keyed up ex-pug Ecklund, whose life has been defined by knocking over Sugar Ray Leonard.
Solid acting, Amy Adams is sheer underwear and some incredible fight scenes make this enjoyable to watch - Wahlberg looked like he was copping every single one of those punches (I took them as punishment for his hip hop career).
All good sporting movies are about fairytale ending, to me the fairytale in this movie wasn't about the boxing but the family drama that envelopes the ring action.
4/5

Haha! I'm not even a big X-Fan but I really enjoyed DOFP. Marvel nails the tone of superhero movies unlike pseudo-serious DC.

The Fighter

Great movie - perfect vehicle for David O. Russell's comeback after years in director jail.

Pity the Micky Ward legend doesn't fit into the fairytale movie narrative. The lightly-regarded WBU title(s) he won pale in comparison to the epic trilogy with Arturo Gatti. And his hat-trick of Ring Magazine Fight of the Year awards (which he amazingly won in three of his last five fights.)

Like any good red, Amy Adams gets better with age...

Considering the battle Wahlberg had to get this movie made - symbolic of Ward, himself, you'll be amazed to hear a sequel is in the works.
I read up on the Ward story after watching, as I'd never heard of him prior, and it was interesting reading. Like any movie, there's a lot out of sync with his career.
The sequel follows the Gatti fights.

All of a sudden we're in Australia.

And there's David Gulpilil.

Great book, too...

Went and saw A Million Ways To Die In The West last night and enjoyed it .. It wasn't a move pack full of belly laughs unless you like Seth McFarlane and Doogie Howser, but I do, so I found a fair bit to laugh about. Certainly wouldn't rate it great, but it's not terrible either. And Charlize Theron still looks a million bucks.

Watched 2 good but very different movies over the weekend.

"2 guns " with Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg, decent shoot em up movie with everyone double crossing everyone else.

"The book thief" with Geoffrey Rush, set in Nazi Germany during WW2. Great emotive story.
