Squad was cut to 25 last night... 22 to be picked for the game - with 6 of those having to be under 21.

Don't have the full list but M. Shearer was the only representative from Flaggy to make the 25.

DTH What is happening at Bomberland?

After all the years of the BDOS Secretary attending meetings at the SFL and canning representative football
"We are a metro League not a country league we should not be involved"

Bugga me tonight I see in person the Said Secretary wearing the Maroon shirt dressed like the rest of the Maroon crew treating the weekend of football very seriously..

I can only assume that he has become a Latte land country hobby farmer.. who now embraces both jetty (Latte) Road Brighton and the Bush

I think you may be quoting the BDOS Secretary incorrectly. Those comments were directed at the Country Football Championships I would suggest. I think most of us would agree that they are a meaningless waste of time. Unfortunately we have bastardised our association game so that a team can be picked for a silly lightning carnival that acts merely as a weekend long piss-up for the CFL.

Not at all but I do agree he seems to be cosying up to the SFL hierarchy. Since getting his Life Membership is now one of the boys.

I can't speak for the Brighton Secretary, but our club has never been opposed to Association Footy but can't understand the Country Champs concept particularly when our league is unable to schedule a BYE for that weekend. As LGIL said, it seems more like a junket for league officials and a chance for SANFL clubs to see all the country talent in one spot. But here is the catch, so many of the lads who play in Country Champs live in suburban post codes and are not true country footballers. The Southern Districts team would be the main case in point. A true Country Champs should only apply to players currently living in the country or players who previously resided in the country but moved to the city for study or employment, but still play in their original country league. If this is not achievable, just stick to Association Games on the June long weekend and let us all get back to focussing on club footy and making finals.

I may be off track here, but don't the clubs/players get fined or suspended if they don't play when selected for the Association side?
Not hard to feign an injury if required, but if as you say it's not injury related....

Not sure on that ruling AFC.... Fines or suspending would be hard to police I imagine as sickness also an option........ Maybe a Sea and Vines bender was more important? ;)

The SFL chose to not make it compulsory to play this year, so those that were under consideration to play all must have been keen...

I believe Vessali was one who pulled out at 5pm on Thursday, not sure who else did? The selection committee then decided to bring in the H.Valley ruckman who was not in the initial squad instead of a couple of big guys that missed out but were in the first squad and trained on Tuesday...
