So now we have a comp where the opposition sides have to pray for injuries to Port and the Cows?
If thats the case lets hope for more injuries

Lowest yes, half of which would struggle to be SANFL standard on a week to week basis. No excuses though, we were outplayed.

Well done to West Adelaide!

Made this point in the live scores thread, but thought I'd mention it here as well. The difference between West Adelaide's performances at Richmond to those away from Richmond really is quite amazing this year. Even their losses at Richmond have been competitive performances, but their losses away from Richmond have generally been pretty convincing or complete beltings.
No Surrender!

Also, other teams are getting injuries (what a surprise). Before the weekend port and crow professionals had one of the shortest injury lists of the sanfl sides. Could also be a function of not having to work and the best facilities.

No, they're won in September once the reserves sides rest all their listed players due to surgery/young players jaded/needs a rest/General Soreness/AFL grand final sprint, and one of the legit sides wins.

Premierships are lost though when Port beat Eagles but not Norwood and the Norwood grab a top 3 spot by a game. We get a big jump on our rivals by snaring some points against an under strength Port team. Glad we got the points but doesn't help the integrity/fairness/authenticity etc of the comp.

Rucks were a major factor today. Thought Bruggeman would spend more time in there than Harvey. That decision may have put development ahead of today's result? Webb and Nelson helped set us up pretty well.

Rapt we won, feels very hollow though - like we've beater their seconds reserves rather than a genuine side.

I don't want to get this thread too far off topic, and nor would I wish to detract from West's performance - clearly they were the better side today - but the fact that the reserves sides are occasionally depleted due to the state of the AFL team (i.e. not like general injury tolls of the proper clubs) is a bit of a windfall for the club who gets to play them, and can obviously have implications on the finals. Certainly this doesn't do much for the integrity of the competition.

Port had a couple out fair enough But so did Westies plus we lost our full forward in the first quarter and Hartlett was taken to hospital.
We were down to 1 on the bench in the last qtr so well done Bloods!!!!
A well deserved victory and the upset of the season!!!!

While today was a great win for Westies, its an example of how frustrating this club has been to its supporters over the years. We are consistently the most inconsistent side in the SANFL. One week we have a win like today's or the thrashing we handed out to Glenelg a few weeks ago, while at other times like last week against the Roosters we put up a performance that borders on embarrassing.

Unfortunately its rare that Westies put it together for an entire season or longer. I'd argue that the last time we put it together was 1983. We've had years like 1991 where it took us half the season to get going, and others like 1985, 1998, 2003, 2012 and 2013 where we get close but can't get over the line.

However, the boys showed a lot of fight today and produced what is probably the upset of the season. Though I hardly think it brings the Power reserves back to the pack. Hopefully its a sign that Westies are getting back to the form that took us to the finals in the past two years.

Well done to Rubbers and the players. A well deserved win :D

Unlike beating a Port Adelaide team in years gone by?

Wonder why.

(PS It's because they're not actually Port for those with mental retardation)
