C&CCA AGM Monday 25th August.

Plenty on the agenda to discuss with the upcoming bi-annual Australian Church Cricket Carnival being hosted in Adelaide this year and of course the possible format change to a 1 day competition.

Thoughts?

If it means saving the comp well then yeah I guess it has to but I'm all for 2 day cricket.

This seems to be the feeling of quite a few people, which means the exec needs to provide us with strong evidence that a one-day comp is what is needed to save the association.

If it can, then sure, we will support it. If not, then it seems to be a real pity if we have to play a less preferred format for no real benefit.

One day games in Associations
I dont like them
Played in those 35 -40 over games
Not ideal for most middle order and late order batters

A lot of us left the Independent association to play in the Church comps in 2000
We were the Croydon Dons , we had good times in the comp , for the 3 years we existed
We wanted to play 2 day cricket
Independent had too many 35 over format games
Most players in the association preferred 2 day games

It seems to me the push for one dayers is so some clubs find it easier to find fill in players for some games. Not saying its not an issue but if the whole format is changed to suit the very very few individuals that can only play one day cricket then the comp is already past rescusitation. Surely you want to target the top end super keen cricketers to play in this comp not the spasmodic fill in player. I'm Dr. Phil So long.

The C&CCA Executive is pleased to announce that the upcoming Delegate's Meeting will be an open meeting.

All players, volunteers and important stakeholders (not just club secretaries) are invited to attend the meeting, which will be a critical fact-finding event ahead of the annual AGM and the important decisions that face the Executive and the competition heading into Season 2014-15.

Open discussion from all attendees will be encouraged, surrounding issues such as the format of Season 2014-15, the upcoming National Championships in Adelaide, as well as the attraction and retention of players to all clubs. It is an opportunity for the views and perspectives of the entire playing cohort to be heard.

The Delegate's Meeting will be held from 7pm on Monday July 28th, 2014, in the Enfield United Cricket Club rooms at Terama Reserve (Terama Street, Gepps Cross).

C&CCA held their delegates meeting last night, which was well attended by the clubs.

It appears C&CCA will not change to a one day only comp, with almost all clubs and representatives being not in favour of the proposal.

Instead the early indication is that the format will likely include a more balanced draw with matches against all sides in both formats (2day and 1 day) with the possibility of also including T20 matches to the draw. It was suggested that C&CCA also look at including a final for the 1 day and T20 component during the season (similiar to B&LCA), with the 2 day final to still be played at the end of the season as per usual.

Match & Performance Points from the 1 day and T20 component would still be aggregrated in the season total towards the overall 2 day ladder.

C&CCA will also host this years Australian Church Cricket Carnival at Park 25 over the period between Boxing Day and New Years, a bi-annual carnival involving representative state church cricket sides from around Australia. C&CCA will have two sides in the carnival, which is a great opportunity for more players to potentially participate in a higher level competition against quality opposition which has included in the past the likes of Victorian Leg Spinner Fawad Ahmed.

Other proposals included:
*Clarification of the runner rule, and allowing a runner in our competition
*Bonus point setup for 1 day matches
*Fielding restrictions in the top division
*12 man sides for 1 day matches (same as the association matches)
*Adjustment of the playing times and conditions
*Modified rules being re-introduced in the bottom grade to increase participation/enjoyment and mitigate the risk of individual players who may be better than the standard destroying an opposition side not at the same level e.g. Enfield Russell Swannson 189 in less than 20 overs last season, Rose Park Jeff Clarke 17/46 for the match last season.

Confusion arises because they are banned in First Class & List A matches and above. Unless noted in the minutes of official meetings you are always going to get someone trying to pull the wool over everyone's eyes.

Only about 9 weeks until the season starts! Are clubs beginning to plan for pre-season etc?

I see a couple of clubs (outside C&CCA) have started or have locked in starting dates... Round 1 will be here before we know it! :D

As should every club at the moment.

Considering the possibility of fielding 5 teams this season..
