There really is some hysterical nonsense going on here. I have always been and remain firmly in the camp that doesn't want AFL reserves in the league competition.

But the Crows coming in has, without doubt, exposed SANFL footy to a lot of new people. You can't keep saying all the numbers are coincidences, caused because of anomolies etc and expect to be taken seriously in this matter. I perfectly understand clubs might not be better off if you look at the whole picture, but only a fool looks at one side of an argument.
Crowds vs port are just as relevant as any other.

And the glenelg game was boosted a lot because of tex but they still would have gotten a lot more than 3k

If you are going to attempt to make this comparison you need to compare it to the average of centrals vs other clubs etc because at present those averages are skewed because of port and crows higher crowds too

And that would make some pretty sorry reading for centrals and westies
Are you catching on yet Benny

FFS, the Afl brigade on this thread make me want to puke.

Given membership numbers are down at the majority of the eight SANFL clubs and attendances are also down, both direct determinants of revenue , why or how is the fact the Crows the biggest supported club in the SANFL a good thing for the eight clubs whose competition it is?

Can you show me where Centrals have benefited from the entry of Crows and Port reserves?

Or any of the non AFL aligned clubs.

The cows may have the highest match attendance but in reality what a useless stat that is as they don't play home games nor do their members contribute to the match day gate takings.

I highly doubt going by my sources that any of the stand alone clubs will post a profit of any significance this season....

At little or no benefit to the clubs whose competition it is.

Crows looking at forming an alliance with the Uni Blacks:

I did notice Harper's presumption that they could just form a SANFL reserves team if they so wished.

Would be interesting to see a comparison of finances from last year to this year. How many posted profits last year?

Well that's debatable for sure. But it's funny how you just completely ignored the fact that you were wrong in the first instance

No I didn't. Crowds for the clubs whose competition it is are down.

That two clubs parachuted in from another league have increased overall attendance is no surprise however crowds for the eight clubs, the only ones that matter in this debate, are down.

Got it yet?

So crowds are down for a centrals west Adelaide game because of the crows and port Adelaide, and in no way related to the fact that they both suck this year.

Makes sense.

Interesting.

The people who have been adversely affected by these changes are the sort who support their club beyond just going to games.

They (used to) go to B&F nights, pre match lunches, player auctions and other events as well as selling raffle books etc for the club.

I'm not sure the clubs will be able to replace this sort of support from the casually interested people attending the AFL Reserves matches.

This issue is not just about what is happening this year - the longer term ramifications are still to be seen.

Maybe we'll be wrong and in 5 years memberships remain stable and most fans feel just as connected to the club and comp as they did in 2013 and before.

But if we're not wrong I bet that those who are claiming it's been a success won't be around to help clean up the mess.

This is a good post, and I agree with you to a certain extent. But I still don't quite know why the crows entering the comp stops you from attending the eagles presentation night.

If it does it may say more about you than the crows.

I can see why Adelaide University are keen for it to go ahead as it almost guarantees their spot in division 1 for not much effort. Could possibly even jag a few flags for it as well.

Exactly. So...I wonder how their opponents will feel about it.

Remember, Uni already cops flak from other SAAFL clubs for not producing juniors and skiving off the rest of the competition - not my thoughts, by the way. However, I've read and heard it plenty of times over the years.

By letting in people for free, a fact you ignore.

Memberships are down and they are a clubs lifeblood. Will the Crows care when a couple of clubs fold because of their entry in the next couple of years?

The SANFL are not in the position to bail any clubs out.

Writing is on the wall and the financial reporting period later in the year will be fascinating.
