According to post replies and views, this is the least interesting League in the Hogg. I'm not sure why though, I've never seen a bigger logjam going into the last round as we currently see in this division. Darksiders and Harrynuts both look GAWN and they sit in fourth and fifth spot respectively. 15th ranked DA HEAT is still a chance to make the top eight as they are only one win behind 4th on the ladder.

This is how the matches look next week that involve the 12 teams who are fighting over 5 available top eight spots.

Cowboys v Has Been
cyrilanddayle v Captain Who?
harrynuts v Buddy Franklin
REBCats v Q Before You
TEAM_FISH v MILLERS MOSQUITOES
Jays Jocks v Eckys Fevolas
Darksiders SCE v DA HEAT

Teams in form include cyrilanddayleshow, MILLERS MOSQUITOES, Captain Who, Eckys Fevolas, REBCats and Jays Jocks. Teams that are struggling all of a sudden include harrynuts, Darksiders, DA HEAT and TEAM_FISH. Two games are very tough to pick in my match against Q and Cowboys v Has Been. Both could go either way. Darksiders have been miles off it lately but DA HEAT are no longer scoring many points at all so the Darksiders could snaffle a top spot despite losing six matches in a row.

The Captain has been flying but cyril has been racking up the points in recent weeks so I'm backing wycbloods in that one. I reckon Darksiders, Eckys and cyril all win and I'm tipping Has Been over Cowboys. That would mean those four are in which leaves one spot up for grabs. The last spot will be between Q Before You and REBCats due to their superior percentage in relation to harrynuts who will lose to Buddy. Matches between Q and myself are locked at one apiece this season but I reckon I'm travelling a tiny bit better than Q and I reckon I can snaffle that last spot...he says.

Having a closer look for my Harrynutts combo;

Win against Buddy and I am still a shot at getting the double chance (need Darksiders to lose to Da Heat and for my nutts too win by more than Ecky's Fevola's as we are on the same wins + identical percentage). Lose and I should miss the 8.

I have Rockliff, Mitchell, Pendlebury + 34.
Buddy has Zorko, Birchall, Beams.

Darksiders have Pendlebury captain, Zorko, Mitchell, Langdon, Gray.
Da Heat have Tyson, Bruest, Burgoyne, Suckling, Westhoff, Minson + 81

Ecky has Pendlebury, Birchall, Mitchell, Liberatore +286
Jay's Jocks have Pendlebury captain, Zorko, Hodge, Suckling and Lobbe.

If Mitchell doesn't play it's season over for me :-(
Lot of teams fighting it out for either the double chance or the last couple of spots in the 8,interesting way to finish the season :-)

It's been a sensational Champions League competition this year. I can't recall a closer league in all my years covering the Hogg. You know you are unlucky when you've won six matches, two games out of the eight and with a percentage of 96 and you end up claiming the spoon. Cossi you are dead stiff there mate.

The big mover in the last round was Eckys Fevolas. Finally it looks as though a team finally wanted that fourth spot as the Darkside and harrynuts spent an extended period in the wilderness. Ironically, harrynutts actually won this week but didn't win by enough to stay ahead of the Fevs. Has Been and Q Before You jumped into the top eight at the last minute at the expense of Cowboys who suffered the same fate in Division I and cyril who had their last Hogg chance snuffed out by the Captain.

The Captain finished full of running but didn't manage to sneak into the eight and somehow Darksiders managed to stay in the eight despite losing the last eight matches of the season. eddieslittleindians topped the scoring and look a good thing for the flag and I reckon his main challenge might come not from Minor Premier Underdogs but fourth ranked Eckys Fevolas.

I wonder what odds I would have been to get the double chance 5 weeks ago when I was equal bottom with 4 wins, 8 losses and 4 games behind 4th spot!

If you rank teams by total points scored for the season I also just come 4th, but by an even smaller margin - 1 point ahead of Buddy, 3 points ahead of Q, and 6 points ahead of Has Been. Our overall rankings must be very close then!

Just a really crazy league this one, a lot of similar teams where only 2 or 3 players per team was the difference.

I finished top 4 in the HOGG I league and bottom of this league.

Semi Finals Results

harrynutts 2182
Ecky's Fevolas 2181

Buddy Franklin 2318
Darksiders SCE 2206

In one of the closest leagues in Hogg history it was only fitting that we got a one point result during the finals series. Looking at the scores you can see that both harrynuts and Eckys Fevolas were both hard hit by the multitude of outs but it was the nutts who kept on rolling as they squeaked by the Fevs just like Juddy did at the Brownlow Medal that night. In the other Semi Buddy Franklin put the kibosh on the Darksiders and a match up could be on the cards in the Premier League Grand Final in a fortnight. Buddy got the job done fairly comfortably with a score of 2318 which is pretty handy by last weekend's standards.

In the Prelims next week harrynutts is up against the formidable eddieslittleindians so it will be interesting to see how the indians approach what is now a rapidly changed SuperCoach landscape. Buddy will be taking on Underdogs who have hardly put a foot wrong all season and on paper they don't look all that hampered by the current list of outs so a tough week ahead for Buddy.

Preliminary Final Results

Underdogs 2415
Buddy Franklin 1638

eddieslittleindians 2451
harrynutts 1866

Two sides have stood out all year in the Hogg Champions League for this season and they have both deservedly won through to the Grand Final. eddieslittleindians have been massive all year but unlike the Preliminary Final he will face tough opposition in the form of the mighty Underdogs who have only lost one match in Champions League all season.

You can see by the lopsided nature of the scores which teams covered the many donuts and dodged the late outs and which ones didn't. Some of this is good luck and some of it is good luck but when you are dominating a top 100 ranked league I'd suspect it's more good management. Should be a fantastic Grand Final next week between the two best teams in the league.
