round 18 South vs Sturt 2014

Postby therisingblues » Mon Aug 18, 2014 2:35 pm

Important game with ramifications affecting three clubs vying for the double chance.
Possibly top spot up for grabs also.
I think this is worthy of its own thread. (last week's win over the crows went threadless)

Go the Blues!
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

Yep, if the score line is Sturt 55.20.350 to South 7.3.45 AND Port lose to Glenelg THEN Sturt could finish top. Likely

My early thoughts are a Sturt win here in a close one. They certainly should get some confidence from the way they ran over Adelaide last week. Should be a cracker and the weather looks good with 20 predicted for Saturday.
No Surrender!

If Sturt wins guaranteed second spot, will drop to third if Norwood beats the Crows. Will drop to fourth if it loses by about 8 goals or more and Norwood wins.

If South wins can go into the Top 3 if Norwood loses to the Crows or if it beats Sturt by about 8 goals or more. If South loses still virtually impossible for it to drop lower than fourth.

Allow me to be the first to congratulate South on what must have been a very emphatic victory. I was not at the game but obviously South blew us apart in the third quarter.
9 goals to 1 wasn't it? They looked a chance to send us to fourth at some stages, which was the real worry.
Sturt perhaps just making up the numbers? Last week's victory over the ravens was very exciting and they showed a lot of desperation to simply overwhelm Adelaide, but with Norwood making raven pie as I type, coupled with recent losses to Port,Central and now South not to mention a near scrape against the Bays,Sturt haven't shown too much to instil much confidence.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

Final League Score:
SOUTH: 14.3-87 DEFEATED
STURT: 9.9-63

Best Players: J.Thewlis, B.Macleod, T.Fields, A.Gulden, B.Crabb & J.Cross.

Goals: P.Rolfe 2, B.Macleod 2, J.Cross 2, A.Gulden 2, J.Veide 2, B.Seccull 1, C.Daniel 1 & K.Brooksby 1.

Unable to watch the game, but enjoyed the 2nd half on rph. Doesn't sound like I missed much in the 1st half. Pleasing to win without a big contribution from Eddy, and for Liddle in his 100th.

Looking back on the regular season, the loss at home to the Doggies is the one that probably stings the most, and perhaps was the difference between making or missing the top 3. That and being the only team not to beat the AFC "state league" team at least once  Even still, 11-7 would be our best regular season since 1992, and there is some genuine confidence going into next week.

South Adelaide Panthers: Pure Minor Premiers 2014.

Congratulations Panthers. The best-performed of the Real Teams in matches between Real Teams.

What a shame that the official ladder, contaminated with results featuring AFL garbage, does not provide just reward for the Panthers' stellar season.

Feel sorry for Eddy. He was well held by Stephens today.

It's been a great season by him and unfortunate he couldn't win the Ken Farmer. Will South have him next year?
