Any team that loses under those circumstances can be partially excused , as these conditions are not the norm

Yeah , capitulating for 161 , is very disappointing
BUT
No need to panic as are 1-1 after 2 games
2 results at the AO is heartening , even though declarations set up both wins
If we continue to have results , and win our share at AO , it might set up SA for a final later this season

Picking 5 batters, sure is a gamble on face value , but allows an extra bowler
SA gets to play 2 spinners this way, and both spinners are contributing

Yes we need to look at the batting depth. The issue is we want the 2 spinners which is ok, but Botha just isn't good enough with the bat.

Im not sure what the solution is.

Bring in Cameron 'Fud' Valente! Bowls and can hold a bat, Australian Under 19 rep, push Botha to 8, Ludeman to 7 and Cam slots into 6. Reckon those 3 could be in any order as well.

I recall In his first season he did OK in run chases or batting in the 4th dig
A measure of good batters are those that consistently contribute well in run chases
In the last few seasons , several times he has had good starts without nailing enough BIG scores

I would say WHUFC is on the ball
Ferguson, I reckon , fails more than he succeeds in run chases

Gee, I seem to remember all the criticism being he was a second innings specialist and couldn't make first innings runs when they counted? He must have made runs somewhere

BATTING IN LAST INNINGS
972 runs
38.88 average

There would be some innings I must have missed
His 4th innings record is better than I had anticipated
Did start well early in his career
Had a lot of starts in recent seasons

Averages 38.79 in his First Class career
Wonderful player to watch batting
Gets a pass mark in his career

156 innings in First class cricket for 10 tons
If only he converted more innings to tons , he might have played Test Cricket

this is also why he only averages in the 30s instead of mid 40s.

honestly don't hold out much hope for him playing test cricket. unless he puts in a couple of 1000+ seasons

Yep
In 4 day games making runs in ANY innings is as important , in my opinion

Anyone who averages about 40 in First Class cricket is usually a good batsman
Anyone who averages close or over 50 is an exceptional batsman
The Ferg gets a pass mark

That was easy!!!!

In all seriousness our boy ferg has improved over the last season and if he can put together another strong season would be around the mark for test match selection

Now back of to drink 10% beers that are bigger than me on the champs élysées

No alcohol has been very cheap in Europe paying about 6 euro for about a 1l glass of some special 10% krononberg

In Bruges we were buying cans of Stella for $0.85 euro

The best part is while the misses drags me into all the shops I can stroll around having an amazing perv while having a beer in one hand
