Sign of a good club when players from other clubs want to play for you.

Well done Sturt I say, good for them.

And I think he may have spoken with Central (or they have spoken with him) as his nephew plays underage out at the Dogs...

Edited for accuracy.

LOL, between the 2 'Glenelg' recruits, a couple of games between them in the last year ... one was playing country and the other played reserves.

They've sold a lot of premiership caps in the past couple of years.

Re: 2014 Retirements & 2015 Player Movement Discussions

Postby Mr Fuller » Wed Nov 12, 2014 1:44 pm

Eagles fairly quiet on the recruiting front so far aside from the return of ex-junior Nick Hayes who, as as a half-forward, does nothing to fix the team’s glaring deficiencies.

From all accounts they have thrown all their efforts into going after ex-Crows players (Petrenko and McKernan) who are currently training with St Kilda. Should they be redrafted then we will be way behind the other SANFL clubs. A similar situation occurred last year when we prioritised Sam Gray ahead of the other port magpie players knowing it was highly likely he’d be drafted.

Meanwhile, other SANFL clubs seem to be working hard scouring the country leagues both here and interstate (showing the eagles how it is done) signing up promising young talent who are 1-2 years out of the U18 system and so are less likely to attract attention of AFL scouts.

Presumably any signings we do make will only be announced after the conclusion of the AFL draft when the picture is clearer. However, given our recruiting strategy is limited to approaching players from other SANFL clubs or luring back ex-eagle juniors, I wouldn’t be surprised if we fail yet again to land a decent midfielder with pace and a ruckman.

With the number of ex Glenelg players appearing at Sturt in recent years, they ought to be wearing Zero Wing fighter pilot regalia... "All your Bays are belong to us".

The Sturt junior program must be something to behold. They just keep getting senior players from a handful of other SANFL clubs. "Stortelg" maybe?

wheres does the letter O come from? :oops:

err,

St = Sturt derivative letters
ort = Port derivative letters
elg = Glenelg derivative letters
which all adds up to Stortelg
Steve Bradbury and Michael Milton. Aussie Legends.

By my quick calculation, of the 30 League players that Sturt played in 2014, 17 came through the SFC junior pogram. Kirkwood, Beard and Watt from Port Adelaide, Duldig (Glenelg via the Barossa League) Hinge and Panozzo via Glenelg, Tambling, ex Crows and Rory Taggert recruited from Melbourne F.C. By those figures, the majority of SFC League players come through our junior program.......which makes it, well,,,,,,successful!

P.S Players like Michael Coad (Tumby Bay) Sam Smith (Flagstaff Hill) and Lachlan Medhurst (South East) arrived via country leagues , Tom Bartlett and Jack Kelly (Prince Alfred Old Scholars) I'd reckon most clubs would be content with that sort of ratio e.g 'home grown' vs recruits.
