Ducked into costco last night at 8:00pm

Holy Gamoly!!!

the car park was i reckon at 95% capacity and there were still idiots (like us) wandering in the doors, it says closing time is 8:30pm. At the door the lady asked if we had our card, as i was fishing in my wallet she goes 'oh that's ok, you don't have much time, well actually, once you get in you've got all the time you want.'

i assume this meant that the doors close at 8:30 but they remain open until everyone is done.

It was a mad house in there with people walking out with trolleys that they couldn't see over and every single aisle was chockas with people. i reckon until the hype dies down and people get their fill it will be a bit crazy there, kinda like Krispy Kreme i envision...

So products wise, although we went late and had the two little nuggets (don't take kids, it just makes it all the more difficult) with us we got to have a decent look around. they have some specialty US items which my wife was keen on ala hersheys chocs and quaker cereal and a few other bits and bobs. it really does almost have everything. a few of the more interesting items included;
- $5K golf buggies
- $13K swim spa
- multiple life size 'nutcracker' figurines (those soldier looking things) at around the $200 mark i think
- massive teddies at $200 each
- lots of mens clothing and electrical goods, a fruit and veg and meat department, hearing and optical centre plus just about everything except for guns

i turned to Mrs NG and told her it reminded me of the movie 'The Watch' (what a terrible movie that was...)

price wise there were a few things that were relatively cheap but you need to buy in bulk to get it obviously. a couple that i looked at were
- 6 pack rexona deodorant cans $18.99 (normally like $5-7 at Woolies each)
- 6x10 packs of L'Or coffee pods (for Nespresso machine) for $24 (Woolies sell 1x10 pack for $6)
- massive drum of 1000 Chuppa chups for $167 (at least 50c each everywhere but would you buy that many at once?!?)
- Huggies nappies were cheaper than shops but they were the boxes with like 150+ in them
- wifey said some of the fruit and veg was reasonable ( i didn't get details)
- they sold 3L milk for $2.90............. HA

overall i think the hype has created a monster, a monster that will produce lots of money early and then taper off later down the track, i assume that it will do well but some items won't move because they are the same price you can get elsewhere. I guess people will go there for the cheap items and then 'well i'm here so i might as well just get that too' kind of mentality will kick in.

i know that we'll spend money there, i just have to limit it to what we really need... good luck with that though!

If anyone here has experiences with catching buses to Melbourne and what they were like?

I'm thinking about going over the weekend and will probably buy the coach tickets tomorrow but never done it before.

Unfortunately catching a coach over and back is looking like being a lot cheaper.

Won't be joining that pregnant blokes thread for a while. Missus just got a job with Macquarie Finance, so I think we'll keep the dough rolling in for the meantime.

Eh, that's what I thought. I was having this debate with friends and thought it was a bit over the top to have subsequent baby showers and request presents etc.

Baby Shower = excuse to have things given to me (that I can't be bothered buying myself for my baby), to be fawned over and for me to see who my best friends are by judging who gives me the most expensive gift(s) - plural preferred
