Still has two hundreds this year, I don't think a failure in this match automatically rules him out, though obviously s huge score would have probably sealed it for him

Not sure about a big one sealing it for him either. Reckon he is several spots down the pecking order in the selectors eyes

Let me guess, they'll replace him with Glenn Maxwell, and bat him at Three!

Doolan

Won't be him. Gone for 12 v Queensland this morning.

Marsh, Hughes and Ferguson at the crease in their games. Make a score here and they should be in with a shot.

I forgot to add smilies, should be 15th on the list.

Agree his form previously has been good enough for selection but like I said I think he needed to be absolutely smashing the door at the exact moment

I would be very surprised if the selectors choose an untried batsmen to a top 6 that already includes inexperienced guys such as Smith and Marsh

Marsh has tonned up, surely he is a certainty for a callup if Clarke doesn't get up

How many times can you go back to the well with some of these blokes, he tonned up in a Test series last time then dropped again.

One ton should not be enough for someone like him...
Hi, My name is Ron 'Bluey' Dunn. Did you know I played in the 61 & 62 Tasman Premiership sides....

The son of Tim , batting at 10 made 43 not out off 40 balls in a 52 run last wicket stand

162.5 over game
Are they better off playing :
One day game
4 day game

Has made 2 in 3 games this year. Wasn't he dropped for Watto after making a ton in South Africa? Was a reserve batsmen in Dubai & may have played but had to pull out due to injury, hardly going back to the well...
If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

Getting chances worked well for Smith and Johnson

In a young batting lineup I think the selectors would prefer to go with someone who has at least performed at test level rather than a 30 year old who has only been an ok first class cricketer who failed when the spot was there for grabs

What more does young Bancroft have to do. Opening the bat for WA and made 132 today, has over 400 runs for the season so far. Also a very good wicket keeper but is concentrating on his batting ATM, only early 20's, these are the guys we should be playing not the Doolan types. Never seems to get a mention but id get him in now so he is ready to replace Rogers at the end of the season

Perfect series to throw him in, if a kids got talent play them. Id much rather see him play than Doolan, Cowan, Ferguson, Rogers etc

He averages 28 with the bat (will be a bit more after today)

I bet you also hat a crack at them throwing in Ashton agar too.

Let the kid have two more seasons, if he is averaging 40+ at the top of the order then he deserves his chance.

Got to pick guys while they are hot, I dont believe in the whole play them at Shield level for a few years bit. Rogers will be gone at the end if summer, a new opener needs to be found by next tour, who do you have in mind to open? Joe Burns would be another id consider but we need to find one somewhere and Ferg, Marsh, Cowan etc are not the answer
And yes I was against Agar, purely because I didnt think his form warranted selection not because of age.

Hughes (fingers and toes crossed) will be the next Australian opener.

Burns is a big shot too, reckon it's between him and Marsh for the number 3 spot.

I know Dean Jones talks a bit of crap but he mentioned only recently that Hughes isnt even in the selectors sights and a couple of selectors had even stamped his papers so to speak. Today casts further doubt on him aswell but hopefully he comes back healthy and just keeps peeling off runs
I think they will go with Marsh this test

S Marsh
M Marsh
Watson

If they are in the same team , Australia could finish the match with 8 fit players !

Plus Rogers is 60 years old!
Also have Haddin that who now the shield game is off will go into the test not playing a game since injuring his shoulder

Agree there would need to be an absolute standout or a young bat with age on their side to be selected ahead of Marsh imho
