Mallalla can't deny it unless he's signed a contract with them can they?

The contract wouldn't mean anything. Pretty sure it's only if they owe the club money.

APFL Bylaws state:
Players can not be refused a clearance Inter Club within the League as listed
below.:
1. A Grade Coach
2. Change of Residence and Work
3. By Mutual agreement of both clubs
Players have the right of Appeal to the Board of Directors for any refusal of
such Clearance.

I'd say by this that Mallala could refuse clearance.

If he wasn't paid at Mallala, is now being paid at united (and put through ATO) can he claim this as his work (even if it is a second job)?

Yeah I seen on the SANFL website today that he just signed with the double blues.... Whether this has anything to do with not getting picked up in the national and rookie draft this year would be interesting to know?

Also was left out of the GF team. Port may have added more depth to that position too. It's probably not a bad move to enable more SANFL opportunity.

Smart move to change clubs. Because if it comes down to games like the GF and port has afl players available it is required that they have to be picked over a none afl listed player like bruggs

Lol no afl club in there right mind would pick him up. There was also no talk about any club being interested in him, so why would that be the reason. Probably the fact the power now have Ryder. Meaning redden will most likely spend the year rucking for the magpies. Not to mention they also drafted another ruckman and key forward. So really there isn't much room for him at the magpies now.

Angus was used poorly by the Maggies IMO. He has a great set of hands and he should've played soley as a tall forward and perhaps a couple of minutes here and there to relieve the ruckman.
Playing every game and then being dumped for the GF was poor form.

This is absolute nonsense. We have never discussed the thought of sacrificing 2015 to save $$. The players that have left are all paid players which frees up the budget and the club had plans to cut down on the amount spent on player payments for 2015 onwards regardless if these guys chose to stay or not. Tim is working hard on recruiting and from what I have heard is close to signing a few guys. The confirmed outs so far are Dowdell to Canberra, Stribling, Thach and Duncan to kaniva and Hanson to Para Hills. The others mentioned on here are weighing up options and close to signing.
Heard last night Michael, Parish, Howell all gone? Can't remeber where to though.
