Need to find some new blood for the important number 3 slot

Needed that since Ponting retired.

Yep haven't been able to replace him with someone even as half as good as he was and I think sometimes we took him for granted and people are quick to forget how good he was, dominated the hardest spot to bat for a long period of time. In my lifetime we won't see another Ponting, we are obviously desperate for a decent number 3 for the future and if we can get a bloke thats as half as good as Ponting we'll be alright, need some blokes putting their hand up at state level, I reckon Ferguson can be the man, needs a truckload of runs behind him first.

If Ferguson was going to be the Australian number 3 he would already be in the team, would have that truck load of runs behind him already and wouldn't be a regular part of our Redback calamitous collapses. I doubt anyone from outside our borders would think he would be in the top 5 considerations as our test number 3. Don't think he would do any worse than Wato though and Shaun "Lovechild" Marsh hasn't done anything to earn the spot either.

He can't bat everywhere but I think Smudger would be the leading candidate to be a long term 3. Would allow Pup to bat at 4 or 5 if and when he gets the body right.

Wade will make runs but guaranteed to drop atleast 1 catch a match off the quicks. I feel sorry for Lyon if Wade ever comes back in

I haven't seen enough of Carters to be sure he is the answer but I have seen enough of SMarsh and Gomer Watson to know they are not the answers.

Better to give him a crack before England but if he does get a gig I doubt it will be Boxing Day but more likely in Sydney. Injuries could tell the tale of whether he gets blooded this Summer. With MMarsh, Warner and the uncertainty around Pup anything could happen from here.

I only hope we get the practice wickets right in Melbourne

If someone with a batting average of 38 is the answer to our problems, our first class system is having issues

So which keeper in the system can you guarantee not to make an error???

Wade is the best going around.

Ferg averages 47 over the past 3 years too. Not saying he will get a gig, just that sometimes overall career averages can be misleading.

Joe Burns to make his test debut on Friday, replacing M. Marsh in a 13-man squad also featuring Harris and Siddle. Thought that Cowan probably had a better claim but I guess it's a statement of intent from the selectors going with a fairly young player.
