Anything to do with the history of the SANFL

just a couple of things dedja

1. we were never 7 goals up at halftime in the 82 prelim, 38 up during the second and port kicked a couple before half time.

2. we didnt knock port off the week after losing to the peckers at the bay either, when woodville beat us we were 0-7 and 1-10 got the flick only to be reinstated at the insistance of the players, we played south at adelaide oval the next saturday and got thrashed by around 70pts, however then we turned it all around and knocked the dogs off at home the following week, was a couple of weeks after that they won at alberton if my memory serves me correctly.
there were a couple of memorable games later in the year, one being the thrashing of the maggies at the bay by 95pts, at one stage i reckon we were 15-15 to 1-8, it was that game that someone tried to lay out s kernahan who went off and then came back on, tony giles and anthony williams (i think) both copped rippers - david holst dishing out a bone cruncher.
steven kernahan had a day out against eventual premiers westies at the bay, the best game i reckon i saw him play for the bays - had something like 30 kicks 18 marks and kicked 6 goals.

unbelievably we had a silly chance of making the 5 come the 2nd or 3rd last round at richmond
but west put us to bed. Funny year '83 for tiger fans, we went from the lowest of lows to playing premiership brand footy all in the space of a few weeks

Is that right? My memory was of the Bays being in the hunt at 3/4 time but getting overrun in the last. I recall reading about Mr. 1-10 wanting to throw himself into the Torrens after that game

I have seen video footage of Mr. Footypunt declaring that it would be an injustice if the Bays missed out on the finals, shortly before that West match. Might have been on The Way It Was '83.

c'mon, we can all be forgiven for not remembering the details with crystal clarity ... it was only 26 years ago!

The other reason may be that '83 was a blur for all the wrong reasons ;)

Anyway, these days I can't even remember what I was about to do when I walk into a room.

youre forgiven dedja :D , the memory is a bit hazy psuedo but reckon we ended up being pumped by around the 70pt margin, the guys went out wearing their hearts on their sleeves, had all the play in the first 20 minutes of the game and couldnt convert south once they settled down had no problems and the rest as they say is history ;)

Found this thread again by accident ... in the days when this site was thriving and the SANFL was alive and well.

See, I didn't always post crap.

Pulled into the servo this morning and an elderly looking bloke walking (a fair way) in front of my car almost shit himself. None other than the great Ian "Daisy" Day. I know we've crapped on about this a lot, but how spoilt we were to grow up listening to him and Peter Marker calling the game.

Peter Marker to this day is the best football commentator I've ever heard.

Pfft. He didn't even list Micheal Aish and put Gary McIntosh in the wrong section as well. Bloody Yabs supporters.

I think a little rover with a golly wog hair style should be in the champion list. One John platten 113 games 262 goals 2 b&fs a magarey ,all australian and plenty of state games. A little champion I remember him kicking 9 v North at Elizabeth once (wedgie haha) .

I saw Platten kick six against North on debut at Elizabeth but never saw him kick more than that against North. Maybe that was the game you referred to ingorudi?

John Platten kicked 9 against North, r 22 1984 at Elizabeth, in the final minor round game of the season, no doubt sealing his Magarey Medal that year
coincidently Grenville bagged a few as well including his 100th for the season in the dying minutes
for the record the dogs won easily!
